Best glue to fix a plastic part

Hi there, I have a broken plastic radiator fan shroud on my tractor. Just the one corner is broke and the broken corner piece is still there, held by a bolt.

Case IH wants a big price for a new fan shroud. I was thinking I could just glue it back together. Anybody know what type/brand of glue would hold plastic the best?

I like the 2 part epoxy glues, can purchase in the big home stores, hardwares etc. Comes in a syringe. Squirt it on a peace of cardborad and mix. Then apply to both surfaces to glue them together.

For something like that I also take a second step, wait till the first step is completly set, then on the inside out of sight, I layer in some fiberglass cloth soaked in the epoxy. Very stong when done. Fixed a few hoods etc that way. never failed again.

PS, if its prone to fail from fatigue in that area, while you got the stuff and are at the task, lay a few layers of cloth in the other corner.

Can you use one of those hot air welding guns like they use in an auto body shop? Maybe take it to a body shop.

What kind of plastic is it made up of? if it is made from HDPE plastic you will not be able to glue it but will have to weld it, if you have a good heat gun just heat the broken ends up till they start to melt and then just hold them together till they cool.

To fix plasatics you need to know what kind of plastic it is. If its ABS, PVC, CPVC, or Styrene (not likely) there are cements made for those plastics and you can buy them from wholesale plastic pipe suppliers. If its polyethylene, which is usually black, the common way to join it is to heat weld it. I don't know of any glue or cement that works.

I would sugest forming some tin on back side and pop rivet the tin to the shroud you can also epoxy it. the tin will take the stress.

Shoe-Goo
It's made to glue ripped up sneakers back together
Sticks to almost anything
Pliable when dry

You can get it at a hardware store

Hot air gun is about the best Harbor frieght has one for around 30.00 You need to know what kind of plastic you are dealing with. HF also sells a rod package for 8.00. If you try this better practice first. Things go bad real fast with too much heat. Another thing to use is fiber glass cloth with the proper resin, and hardener. Put several layers over the bolt hole corner. Reshape the corner and drill the bolt hole out. Then use sheet metal screws through the fiber glass into the plastic. The fiber glass will not stick to the plastic very long. Stan

Can't remember who makes this stuff.... It's called Plastic Surgery. Small tube on a piece of card board that hangs on a hook at the hardware store. I buy it at a True Value store. Located where ever they stock their glues. Never had a failure yet.
