Post down below got me to thinking and I think we discussed this before but here in Mn. we keep our livestock in a barn and our tractors in a shed. What about your part of the country?

Here a shed is a small structure (like a tool shed) A barn is a larger bulding for storage or animals. Garage or shop is a repair facility.

i agree with you. just dont know why everything is called a barn find. worst place to keep a tractor i would say, especially if theres animals in it . the condensation is what does the damage. but i guess it sounds cool and they figure its worth more.

The only barns in my mind are the old hay/livestock barns with a loft built back in the old days. The rest are machine sheds, sheds and shops.

Very true. Neighbors kept a CA Allis and Manure spreader in the center of the dairy barn when milking cows in the 60's and 70's. Hand load the spreader and haul the manure out and the tractor always started because it was in where it was warm. Tractor was VERY rusty when the cows where sold. The barn life was not good for it at all. It ran ok but all the sheet metal was like swiss cheese.

I have a machine shed, and a horse barn, both are pole barns from the same manufacture. Southern Il.

Yep, I believe that's the distinction.

I made the mistake of trying to store my little Allmand backhoe in one stall of my wife's horse barn. We have 7 stalls, and have had up to 14 horses in various combinations. Now down to 7, and suddenly, no one can get along with anybody, so she has to have her 7th stall back.

But she's been living with me long enough to know you can't just drop stuff like that on me "cold"- so she re-arranged my junk in the machine shed to make room. So I growled a little, but didn't bark.
