Couldn't be..........
Been looking for under roof storage for my hay machines, couple odds and ends, (mower, rake, tedder, and baler) and horse trailer.
Neighbor lady has a roofed over kind of carport that would work that is outside on the edge of town with a honest people gate/fence. Went to ask her and she offered to let me use the majority of a silo bunker that has been roofed over (15'x60') she just wants to be able to park her car in real bad weather. This is about 50 ft from our house, attached to her house, 20ft from a kennel with a real big and loud dog, and has a steel gate that locks. Completely weather proof except no end door but protected from any wind. She wants 30 bucks a month for both places. I'm haggling to get her to 25 (300 a year vs 360). Wife says I should just pay and shut up because it'll clean up equipment that is scattered everywhere. At the same time, I think keeping the stuff dry and clean will pay for the extra 60 bucks a year in maintenance costs saved.

Guess I AM being cheap and a little ignorant..... Better go see her with the cash Monday morning and start moving my stuff....

Done now..Thanks for talking me into it

For once I totally agree with you, but you underestimate yourself on being a "little ignorant." Don't be so modest and give yourself full credit.

Mot43,
Maybe you should Destroke yourself back over to the JD board.Looks like they are getting tired of you also.

Dave2,

Many years ago I figured out that haggling over little stuff simply causes bitterness and ill-will. I would never argue over $5.00 a month on anything.

But then again, that's just me, you have to decide what's best for you.

Only you know whether you're being cheap or not. What is the going rate?

Whether you get her to go down the $5.00 or not, you need to convince her she is better off with your stuff in her facilities. A good renter takes care of things, keeping things clean, making small improvements/repairs as if it were his own. Years back Dad had a renter in a house he owned who was always on the look-out for small improvement he could make...glazing a loose window, fixing a broken latch, cutting unsightly tall grass, etc. Respect her and she will appreciate and respect you.

Hard to judge the going rate but she is asking a fair price if you figure folks are paying 50+bucks for a parking space if it has a roof over it in town. I'll make a deal with her on Monday.

Dave

Yep cheap and not so smart. If she agrees to the
25 she'll probably start looking for someone that's willing to pay a fair price then you'll be upset when you have to move out.

She enjoys the attention..Her old man was and her son (lives with her) is an idiot so she don't get many visitors (people tend to pass along grudges like family jewelry). Guess Monday will be the right timeto "give in" and start the rent on the beginning of a month. It'll be worth it just to get a roof over my stuff and have it all in one place.

(quoted from post at 20:24:43 11/27/10) Man I bet you could squeeze a penny so hard you"d make Lincoln cry!(grin)

There is a Jewish cemetery about a mile away and she asked me if I had relatives buried there or if I planned on getting a plot for myself. Not funny in most circumstances but her family was more or less for the Nazi regeme and she still believes the stereotypes.....

See Dave. These responders have ya figured out . lol. Cheap doesn't define you at all. People skills come in handy when coning old lady's out of rent money. Remember I told ya you would be needing additional storage places for all your new found equiptment. Storing tractor, balers, diggers, etc outside with out tarps is just asking for rapid deteriation(sp).Good thing she cant read your post describing her and her son. lol. Rent would be IMPOSSIBLE TO GET from Her. .

Turn the tables and you would have been screaming bloddy murder about the flaming audacity of some people when it comes to renting storage for tractors and such.

Let your wife come with you ,and she could bring the lady a pint of her homemade apple butter along ,and talk with the lady that would work better than you going alone
