Had to put down our 19 year old cat today. He had a good life though, we took good care of him, as our other cats. we still have two. I know a lot of people don't like cats for some reason, but the wife and I like our cats, and our border collie. Life goes on. Have a good night, and give it heck tomorrow. Stan

Condolences are offered. it is always a personal thing, and usually dramatic. I hope it went well. they are a treasure. Our 16yr old maine coon male is still going strong. Our 4 year old gray tiger is a fat mouser. Peace Jim

We lost 2 dogs in a house fire a few years back. Wife would not let us get anything else, she didn't want to go through the pain again. A couple of years later, we got a cat of all things. Actually got it for our daughter, but wife and cat are almost inseparable. Last night, oldest daughter brought a Black Yorkie to the door, and just came right on in with him. I could see "Momma's" eyes light a little, and a small grin on her face while all the time shaking her head, and trying to muster a mean look. Looks like Charlie has a new home :) Cat is not happy, but they are learning to live in the same house, just different parts for now. It's all good though. They all make life better. I've worried about how long the cat might be with us (strictly indoor), so if he make 19, I won't have to worry I don't think. I hate that you had to do this, as I know how bad it hurts when you have too. Take care, and know the "wounds" will heal.
Paul...

sorry to hear about your loss. I have 5 barn cats and 3 dogs...... well 2 dogs and a 5 lb yorkie. All are like kids to me.

Too bad. 19 years is a long time though. Seems like our cats and dogs wait till the winter to die when the ground is frozen and I'm out there at our pet cemetery with a pick. There is a place that sells animals and things formed with concrete either painted or plain. They have these curled up kittens for about $10 or so that make good markers. Bigger ones and painted ones are more expensive. Usually lay down a piece of flat concrete paver on top of the grave first.

Yea, don't know why some don't like cats.

Sorry to hear, 19 is pretty good, but doesn't make it any easier.

One of our standoffish barn cats was hurt bad - musta been run over - and wife & I were almost in tears. Wasn't one of the close ones.....

We went through this back in July when they did an ulta sound on our 10 year old Chow. I was broken hearted when we received that news that she had cancer. We had her put to sleep in Sept when she started bleeding from the rectum and we had her cremated. We also bought another Chow pup in July. Hal

You"re right. James and I have shared our home and lives with animals for many years. Some I"ve had to put down, some just went to sleep and didn"t wake up. Losing an animal that has shared your life for many years is always hard.

I have always liked cats, when our children were young they wanted pets and we got a pair of cats. One lived to be about 14 and he had a stroke and had to be put down, but Jake lived to be 23 years old,I believe he developed diabetes and he kept losing weight until there was nothing left of him, but there was no suffering. His age (23) was phenominal but other folks have told me they know of cats that lived that long.
Its still an upset to lose a pet that has been around your home for those many years. Our children grew up and had children of their own that played with Jake

sorry to hear about it, pets have a way of diggin into our hearts and only a heartless person wouldnt miss them good luck to you

I am a veterinarian and have been doing this for 32 years and it doesn't get any easier for me either. My sympathy.

Here she is at 5 months old. Her name is Sugarbear and we call her Sug for short. She's dark gray in color. Hal

As someone said, I like my dogs better than I like most people... wouldn't be a family without them... condolences on your loss...

It's hard to lose one of your "buddies".

"Woody" was one of my favorites and he died one weekend while we were at the farm.

Just about the time I had convinced myself of "no more cats", a small white kitten wandered up to the farm house.

You know the rest of the story.

Sorry for the loss of your "buddy".

Chief you did what needed to be done. Part of the responsibility of owning animals, any animal. They look for you to do the right thing. You did. Sympathies for now, memories for later.

Those ladies that worked in the vet's office went nuts over that pup. All of them wanted to hug her. Hal

You should get another cat. We have 3 that were
either left outside when the owner's moved or not wanted by their owner. One is an Himalayan
that couldn't get along with the former owners husband. I couldn't believe they were giving away this beautiful cat. Hal
