building a tractor cab

I am in the process of building a cab for my tractor. I am at the point of making windows for it now. I was thinking about using angle iron and plexiglass to build the windows. Anyone have any ideas on attaching the plexiglass to the steel?

I have used screws w/a rubber washer ... I think they use them on tin for pole buildings ...

Just an idea ... good or bad ..

If the cab is suseptable to any movement or twist put the plexiglass in a frame and clamp it. Then it can shift and not break.

Always cut the hole in the metal about 3/8 inch larger than the piece of plex you are going to use. Make sure that the corners of the plex are cut round. If it is a square corner, expect breakage, but if its round, the breakage is must less. Check with a glass repair dealer for rubber molding that will hole the plex and the metal. I learned the hard way, BTDT.
Good luck,

My suggestion is to use butyl rubber. It's the same thing the windsheild in your car is glued in with. You can glue laminated glass into your angle iron frames also. When cutting whatever you use leave plenty of space for movement and the butyl will flex. You can buy it in cauling tube form from anyplace that installs windshields.

considering the benifits vs. cost, I would just go ahead with tempered glass. plexiglass will scratch way too easy.

Guess I'd be afraid that plexiglass would do as most plastics seem to and would attract dust and give low visibility.

Not sure if you have ever been in a early tractor cab or a homemade one, but unless done correctly they tend to transmit many of the tractor noises into the operator space.

Best wishes for a successful build.

You have to use "lexan" not plexiglass.

Plexiglass cracks and brakes way to easy. Hold it on with some "zip" screws . Self drilling...

I had a gentelmen build me a cab for my 55 cub last fall and that is what he used and it is perfect.
