John deere 4430 duals

Ive got a 4430 that has has two rear wheel weights on either side and the rims are set up for clamp on duals. Are clamp ons better than hub mounted duals? Any experiences with either? Thanks

Hub mounted duals are always better. Clamp on duals are cheaper. What do you use the tractor for? How careful are you? The heavier the load on the tractor the more likely you are to break the cast wheel with clamp on duals (especially on a 4430).

I've used both. Clamp-ons put a trememdous amount of pressure on the wheel they're clamped onto, particularly if you drive through a ditch or something similar where the dual carries all the weight, even momentarily. With a stamped wheel on the tractor, there's a possibility of cracking the center of the wheel out around the lug bolts. Nothing wrong with them, you just need to make sure the wheels will handle the extra stress. A dealer should be able to tell you.

The rule of thumb I heard was clamp-ons are OK if the tractor has cast wheels, and not recommended with stamped wheels on the tractor.

Axle mounts are OK either way.

Reid, Axle mounted duals are always stronger, but clamp-on duals will give you just as good traction the rub occurs when you pull long wise down a ditch or some other area like that. at that time the entire wt of the tractor is being supported by the outside lip of the inside wheel and the clamps on the dual holding them together! Slowing down and being careful is stil the best way to prevent damage. An axle mount dual can cause an axle to get bent or make the outside axle-bearing to fail. If your duals have only 4 clamps that is just barely enough to mount on relatively flat ground if you have 6 clamps them that will be stronger just do not try to get in an area where the duals are supporting the entire wt of the tractor. IMO! Hope this helps

used clampon duels for years never broke a wheel, in fact that is thats all we ever used, had them on 4440"s, 4630, 4230, used them all the way up to the 4840. just make sure you keep them tight. mud will pack in, with clampons, where it will not with hub, that is the advantage i ever seen. i always thought they were easier to put on an take off.

I had band duals when I had my 1370 and never had a problem,I doubt if you would, lots of jd's ran band duals around here. Only IH tractors should only have hub duals instead of band duals .I like hub duals better but I bought a 2 sets of 18.4-38 band duals this summer for the tires $35 for one set and $45 for the other. I'd sell you the hardware if you were close.
