OT: Telemarketers, Gotta be rude

I love being rude to Telemarketers.

I got a call at 1pm today, just got home from work at 11:30 and was taking a nap.

The phone rings and this broad says she is from the Childrens blah, blah, network. I said yeah, so whadda you want. She wants money for whatever. I said "let me get this straight, you call total stranger up and ask for money. I need to save for my sons college education. And I need to buy more ammo for my assault rifle. Dont call me again" And I hung up.

These people are gonna get threatened with severe bodily injury if they call again.

I like one of the old Seinfeld show lines, he asks them for their name and home phone number so he can call them back later and let them know...... I subscribe to every no call list I can find which does help a lot........One should ask their name and company and tell them NEVER CALL AGAIN that way legal action may be available should they call back........Another thing is to just leave the phone off the hook n walk off........ I ask how they got my name cuz Im on a no call list and get their name n company then be rude n hang up........

On the 8th day, God invented the answering machine..... Cheapest secretary you'll ever find and won't get you in trouble with the wife (unless you're stupid).
We only pick up the phone if it's my family from the States or my wife's grandmother and talk to other folks at OUR convenience.

I got smart with a telemarketer a few years ago.He got mad and called my house for a week at 3am and several times through the day.He was trying to sell me 50 gallon of brush killer.

I don't play games, I don't ask for a date, I asked the big question if they want toooooooo.

I do this regardless what they are, male or female.

So far no takers?// Whats up with that?

Probably much more important is to keep them on the phone for as long as you can. Ask them if they can hold a munite, and walk away from the phone!

Why did you put up with that? There are laws against that sort of harrassment and the phone company is obligated to co-operate with the state Attorney General's office to get it stopped.

The worst offender (at least in my book), is "Rachel" from 'Cardholder Services' or some such made-up name. They call my cell phone, and home phone repeatedly, use forged numbers, and will not discuss who they are. They also do not abide by 'Do Not Call', and they always claim that they mailed something to me; that supposedly establishes a 'relationship', so they feel they can call me in spite of the DNC listing. It is pure B.S.

While they are talking I just press a button every few seconds. When they finally ask what the beeping is about. I tell them I'm pressing 1 for english.

The same thing happened to me. I repeatedly told an Asian speaking woman to speak in English and finally she gave up or so I thought. She started to call in the 2 to 3 AM time period and claim she was sorry and the computer made a mistake. Just hang up.

So whatcha gonna do when ya get some big fat ugly 400 pound moose that wants to take you up on that?

I am on the DNC list and have had to "Block" several numbers also.
But--how can you stop NO NAME NO NUMBER Calls? :?:

I don't get them anymore and haven't for years, EXCEPT for government or charity causes because somehow they are exempt from "No Calls" meaning no calls. If it comes up as "Unavailable", "Private", or "Unknown", why even bother answering? You know the call isn't going to go well, so why bother unless you're a practical joker that wants to have some friendly fun...and then I agree. I love FUN, but only when I'm controlling the fun, otherwise its not fun.

They would only call me twice at that hour and every law I could get would be breathing down there neck

I had a run in with the Texas weed killer salesman, too. Did you ever buy any books from diamond farm publishing? I think they sold my name to him. All I asked him was to send me a label for the weed killer, in the mail, and he hung up on me!

Well That is a very valid point to ponder, but as far as I know my mother in law (bless her heart) just walks the streets.

Besides, any gall like that from my home town would be busy at the beauty contest down at the local bar.

And Old Roy probably doesn't have the stock trailer hooked up to bring his sister to my home.
I never thought of it untill now, but Old Roy might be able to ship her by rail!

Just kiddin Old Roy, but after you described her a while back, I just think of her alot. The doctors still think my problem is from not getting a flu shot, because my continuous upchucking is about the same as having the flu.........

I've tried various things over the years, I've told them to stop talking and "wait for the click" (hang up) but my favorite is, "wait, let me go get my credit card" and then lay the phone down. They almost won't give up and during that time, they are not bothering someone else.

Always polite, always professional. The correct response is, "May I ask who is calling please?..... Please put this number on your do not call list, Thank you." click. They quit bothering me years ago.

I had one call trying to sell me an extended warranty. I told her all I had was a 91 Ford F250 with 400,000 iles on it, could I get a warranty to cover...she said she needed the vin number. I said I would go get it, came back 30 minutes later and she was still holding...

Good idea!

When caller ID indicates a telemarketer, I just answer the phone in Japanese and continue to talk in Japanese. It blows them out of the water. One guy kept asking me in English if I spoke Spanish. I'm not that fluent in Japanese, but I know enough of the language to harass telemarketers.

Love it. I tired to get an extended warranty for my 1949 Chevy truck and they didn't seem to think that was funny. I reminded them that they called me and not the other way around.

Our local county assesor sells the property owners list to the telamarketers for decent money.

It makes targeting more efficent--renters don't need siding or roofing.
