OT - Need source for Briggs 18.0 I/C Vertical Shaft Engine

Blew my lawn mower engine up today with ~1000 hours on the clock. Only have myself to blame since i probably have not checked oil since I changed it in the Spring. Engine seems seized up pretty solid.

Anybody have a source for a replacement or know of a cross reference to find something equivalent. Would probably buy a new mower before spending $500 for a new Briggs unit.

Thanks,

Kirk

IF everything else is good, look into a shortblock. go to Briggs and stratton"s webiste, you can find a dealer in your area. I"m sure there are plenty of places on the web as well you can purchase from.

Smallenginewarehouse.com is one.

Might check your local scrapyard. People scrap mowers all the time. I've pulled quite a few that ran fine. $.15 or $.20 / lb makes for a pretty cheap engine. Careful of the ones that they unload with the mag as it seems to mess up the magnets in the flywheel, but if you can swap your flywheel over , it shouldnt matter.

Check out Small Engine Warehouse

I have dealt with them for years. There are several New engines on there for less than $500 dollars. They have a 11 hp Honda vertical shaft, $399 shipping $59 UPS ground.
They have a very good web site. They are in Dunkirk, In.

I'll usually buy a complete tractor for less than 200.00 and use that motor cregs list has em daily

My 18 Hp Vanguard cost me 150.00 ( Bought the tractor with bad mower gear box, and I sold some other parts off the donor tractor for 75.00 scrapped the rest, and have used and abused the 75.00 Vanguard for the last 10 years -- still runs strong.
