A friend needs to find a used final drive for a 1640. Has tried several yards in and near central In. Any help would be greatly appreciated.A rebuilt one is nearly $600. Thanks, bob

I paid 500 for a salvage one with no rebuild about 10 years ago.

Better grab that rebuilt.

I agree, $600 for a rebuilt is cheap as it gets.

I have had to pay $500-$1000 for used with no rebuild.

I put the last design heavy axles shafts that are less prone to breaking in a 1480 last year. The new heavy shaft with seal and bearings goes for right at $2500.

axle tubes are the weak point on a 40 series, local shop used to put a tube in side the axle tube and weld it in, final drives have to be removed.

msb, I have one off of a 1440, depends on the year of his combine, but this one might work. Also is it a right or a left? I found out the hard way that on the 1440 series that it does make a difference, because there is no way to reverse them because of the fill and vent hole set-up. Also the gears from an 815 will fit in his housing, but the housings are different. You can catch me on here, I might be alittle slow getting back, but I will.
