Well was in the part store today. Local auto place and the guy I try to get to get most of my parts pulled me over to the side and ask me hey what is up with my truck. So I guess he believes I know some thing or I have him fooled. But any how his truck over heated and the upper hose was soft and he had no coolant and I said sounds like the thmermo stuck and blew all the coolant out because the over flow tank was over flowing so do you think I am on the right track it is a dodge truck small one other then that I do not know. Oh by the way the kid is good when it comes to him finding me parts

He might have a pin hole leak in a hose or maybe the rad. Pressure test the cooling system to see if there are any leaks. If not, could be a thermostat or plugged rad. Dave

Hello old,
Look for the simple things first.
Here is the list in the order of importance.
Overflow tank leak, very common leak source.
Coolant level when possible. Water pump belt tension, fan clutch or electric fan operation, and the pump itself.
Collappsed hoses, usually soft to the touch, and may also be bulged out to a different size.
Thermostat, if it was at fault for his truck, it was the old style. New style thermostats fail in the open position. Head gaskets leaking. Broken head bolts.
A hot trasmission will add eanough heat to the radiator to make the engine overheat.
This should get you or him started.
Guido.

Ya I forgot that one he did a pressure test of the cooling system and it did test at 16psi plus so no leaks so that to me goes back to the thermostat but then this new junk does have me a little off and think the old even if not all that high teck had something going for it LOL

cracked head.If it holds presure when cold alot of times when the head heats up it will presureiz the rad and overflow the overflow. My van did just that, thought it was head gaskets,NOPE 2 cracked heads,OUCH $1400 each.

I had a grand am once quad 4 engine would loose coolant , turned out to be a blown head gasket.
