has anyone had any luck with the 6.0 good or bad
just would like some in put have one and can just about count on it for every year 2300.00 for shop repairs had a extented warrenty and they are telling me that the turbo is not part of the motor contract says all oil lub parts last time I looked thiers an oil tube running to the turbo to lub !!

I don't think we can make enough bad comments about that Ford product. My friends are on their 4th turbo and don't even have 100K miles yet.

There was one in a service truck (550) at work, warranty work was up to about $25,000 when it was decided by the boss to put an in-line six from a Dodge in it. It sure has a bunch of power now!

Nephew has a 6.0 in a F-350 that upchucked last week. Not the turbo. He lost the high pressure oil pump blowing the O-rings from the injectors. He also had to replace the EGR and OIL cooler as the EGR cooler was dumping water into the engine. You could not just replace the EGR cooler as there was a design change so both had to be replaced. about $3500 for a truck with a whole 60 K miles. It was 4 months out of the time warranty.

The 7.3 was a heck of a lot better. Ive got a 6.0 and wish I had my 7.3 back. Pretty much you either get a good 6.0 or one that is junk. I find guys get more junk than good. Mine is an 04 with 73000. No major problems so far. Had an egr issue a while back and so far thats been it. Im a ford guy all the way but im pretty sure this one will be my last ford diesel.

I have an F250 with a 7.3 diesel in it. It has 339,000 miles on it. The only problem I had with the engine was that I had to repace all the injector O-rings. Also, it miss fired and bent a push rod about the same time. Not bad for that many miles.

Yea,a real winner that one.

my son has one, been at the dealer shop 5 mnths out of the 4 yrs he owns it.

Nottng but trouble,headgaskets/bolts(twice},EGR,Turbo,puter,driveshaft,brakes,front hubs, puter and a zillion other things electric.

And now he has a bad vibration in the power train they can't find and the paint is peeling and the fenders are rusting.

Give me the GM 6.5 any day.

When I was looking for a truck, my mechanics told me not to even consider the 6.0 because Ford was having lots of problems with them. Looks like they were right.

Buddy of mine has a yard barn haul'n buisness. He runs 5 trucks, puts about 80,000 miles a year on them, trades every year. When Ford came out with the 6.0 none of the five engines made it a year with out major work. He has run mostly Chevys since. He has bought a few fords and dodges the last few years but for what he does Chevy makes him the most money.

I have never had a new enough truck for the 6.0 to be a worry.

I've mostly heard bad things about em. Fairly major, expensive repairs.
My Girlfriend has an '05 with just a shade under 100k on it and has been almost totally trouble free. Had to have the computer re-flashed by Ford once, but otherwise has been a good rig. Plenty of power, and decent mileage.
I still like my good ol' 7.3 better though.

Ben

The funny thing is, International doesn't have all these problems with their 6.0 It's only rated for something like 225 or 250 hp though. Ford keeps reflashing the computers and taking away power trying to make it more reliable.

Ive got an 04 with 124K and it just puked on me last weekend. Ive put every mile on it and it has been a good truck. Had a few problems at first, AC clutch cmae off at 300 miles, injector bad at 13K, rear main seal at 40K. All that was in the first 15 months and it hasnt seen the shop since. Im not going to get rid of the truck Im going to get rid of the problem. Im deleting the EGR cooler, installing new head gaskets and studs, new injectors and high pressure oil pump, new oil cooler and a few other little things. Theres no way you could give me a new diesel with all that goct regulated garbage on them. Once Im done with this project I should have one reliable diesel. Total cost not including labor (im doing myself with a buddies help) is about 3000.

There's a million posts about this engine on about a million forums. It usually gets as heated as a repub/dem political debate. As a former owner of an 04 with a 6.0, RUN AWAY from it. Ford spent 1 billion dollars (yes thats a B) on warranty claims only for this engine! I traded mine in 06 and hope it went to the crusher! Are there good ones? certainly. But when they go bad, they go waaay bad!

Well that sums it up for me, I was looking at newer fords just because they have a manual, I like the chevys, for I have a 94 dually with the 6.5 turbo, but it doest have enough power like said on other post. I hope the allison is a good tranny, never was too keen on the slip o matics. Might still look for a good ford with the 7.3, did they have them with the 6 speed manual?

They did make the 7.3 with a 6 speed manual, I believe starting in '99. They still put em in. I like the auto's myself, although if I could figure out how to get a 5 speed auto in my '96, I'd sure do it.

Let me tell you a story of an 05 F350 June of this year with 73K started overheating pulling 39 ft 5th wheel rv (12K lbs.) Oil cooler blown, Ford also informed me that they would not replace the oil cooler without replacing EGR cooler also (not covered by extended warranty, $500 extra bucks. I asked about head gaskets and they said they did not go that far into the engine. I told them to go further, gaskets on both heads were going so replaced under warranty total bill $4800 I paid 800. July 20 in Valley Al, transmission starts slipping and just made it to Ford dealership. 6 days later and $4k more (also covered by extended warranty) back on the road to Texas. Only thing left to repair/replace is transfer case and front and rear diff then should have rebuilt truck. Would like to take this time to acknowledge King Ford in Valley Al. NEVER had such good service from any dealer or independant garage. Wrote FoMoCo to praise them.

Last Ford truck with a manual transmission was 2009. Only full sized truck on the market to offer a manual transmission in 2010 is Dodge.

ot to worry about that "FORD"/"NAVISTAR"/"IHC" debate anymore. Ford has now severed that relationship & designed & builds their very own Ford diesel engine.......you won't have any trouble identifying it either, as the exhaust comes out of the heads in the valley (where you are accustomed to seeing the intake) & the intakes are along each side (where you are accustomed to seeing exhaust manifolds). Guess they gave the Ford engineers a clean sheet of paper. Time will be the judge.

WITH THIS MANY REPLIES OF BAD MOTORS WHY HASN'T A CLASS ACTION SUITE NOT BEEN STARTED IT SEEMS PEOPLE ARE SUING FOR EVERYTHING ELSE ?
ME i'M AFTER THE EXENTED WARRENTY COMPANY THAT SOLD ME THE PLAN !CONSUMER DIRECT WARRENTY SERVICES AND ENDURANCE WARRENTY SERVICES

What's interesting is that a while ago the base engine when you got into the F-550 or so, was the Cummins 5.9, I don't know if thats still true.

elow F-650, they use either 6.2 gas or Ford's own 6.7 reverse flow diesel. F-650 & above use 6.7 Cummins.

I have an 04 F-350 with the 6.0 Powerstroke engine. Had to have the engine replaced at 86,000 because the Number 1 injector tip broke off and made like a ball peen hammer in the combustion chamber. Since that engine has been replaced, I"ve had very good luck with the truck. Every manufacturer has had lemons every now and then.

I have a 05 F350 with the 6.0. Read a lot of horror stories online.

90,000 miles on mine and the only thing I have had to do is scheduled maintenance and turn the key.
