buying another tractor

I am looking for another cheap tractor to pull forage wagons and do some other jobs around the farm like pull manure spreader.I came across an AC 210, a Case 1175 and a MF 1105.I dont know a whole lot about any of these tractors as most of my tractors are John Deere or Deutz.I have worked on quite a few Case tractors but have never really used them to do any work.Any recomendations? Thanks in advance.

If you're pulling loaded wagons, the BRAKES also can be an issue.

Consider the tractor's reputation in that area, as well as being able to PULL!

I would pick the Case 1175 out of the ones you list. It is a very simple rugged tractor. The AC220 had transmission troubles. The MF 1105 had rear end problems around here.

"BRAKES also can be an issue"

On that note I remember the brakes on a Case 1070 that I ran needed the engine RPM up above idle for best performance. If I recall correctly they were hydraulic assisted some how.

It was only the early 1105s that had rearend problems. We're fairly certain that our late 1105 has a factory 1155 rearend under it.
They are good tractors. I would pick them over all the other options.
When any tractor breaks on our farm, we get the 1105 to finish the job.

The 1105 is probably the best tractor of the three. It has the perkins 354 engine in it. But what really matters is which of the three tractors was takin care of the best. the one out of the three that got the best maintenance is your best option to be honest regardless of brand.

Not to try to intentionally steer you in another direction, but can you find a decent White 2-85? 354 Perkins engine, good trans and rearend, good brakes.

I am open to all colors of tractors. All tractors I have found are of course old and will probably break down sometime.I am not to worried about that as I can fix whatever breaks. I just hate to spend a ton of money on a tractor that will only get used about two weeks out of the year. Also the guys pulling wagons only have one speed(wide open)if you know what i mean.

I wouldn"t "fool around" with any of those other makes seeing as you"re already into JD's. I'd be patient and try to find a good 4040, 4230 or 4240, they're usually somewhat cheaper than a 4440 (as you must already know) and unless you've got problems with JD's for some reason you're able to use your same dealer for parts and service. Having different brands of tractors used in a serious farming operation is sometimes an adventure that's no fun...depends on your own opinions of course.

In that case, maybe the 1105 isn't your the best choice. Wide open they'll turn near 2800 rpm, and PTO speed is 2000. But if you did tell them to only go 2000 rpm, the 1105 will still go about 15-17 mph.

I already own a 4240 and 4230.My local Jd dealer is worthless so I get my parts elswere. As for service I have never had anyone else work on my equipment. I am just looking for something cheap to help pull forage wagons this year. That way when the idiot running it tears it up I am not out to much. Are parts easily found for MF or AC?I know Case parts are and there is a good Case dealer close.

I have run all three of those tractors. The 1105 we ran had more problems than the rest, transmission input shaft went out twice. The 210 and the 1175 case are pretty simple power. If some tractor jocky has turned the pump up on the 210 it may have tranny problems. I would look at parts supplys and area dealers before I brought anything home.

well if your open to any color id suggest a white 2-85 or even a white 2-105. they dont bring a lot of money and they are a lot nicer than a 1175, 210 and 1105 in my opinion.

As far as cheap horsepower goes maybe you might want to look at an IH 1066 or a 966. idk just trying to give you options.

It sounds to me that the 1175 is the winner hands down. Bulletproof trany,451CUINs of get down and pull power,Built in weight, and good dealer support. If the condition of all are equal, there is no doubt in my mind. I used to love taking an 1175 out, on a demonstration, especially when competing against the allis's. I would set the throttle at about 1750RPM and let them do their thing, When a tractor is screaming at 2500 plus RPMs your mind and body is doing likewise.Good luck with which ever you chose.

Another thing to consider is parts availabilty and cost. Around here JD and CIH can get me parts oover night if I am willing to pay the frieght and two days on stock order. AGCO ,which is where the AC amd MF parts are going to come from, is slower and cost much more. I have a few Olivers and Agco has gone crazy on the parts cost.

1175 hands down, 4 3/8X 5 engine, about 2200 max rpm, more torque at lower rpm, good fuel economy, basic no frills machine. Have a good tractor mechanic give it a once over for you but that pertains to whatever you buy used. mEl
