I just got my tractor running and was all jacked up about it and then remembered that the clutch was shot. I haven"t torn into it yet, but its loose and won"t even begin to go into gear. So if you have any suggestions or ideas how to, i"d appreciate it.
Thanks!

Explain what you mean by "won't even begin to go into gear"..???

I would think you mean that the clutch is not releasing...??

Ron..

It could just be out of adjustment. If you push the clutch lever forward you should feel it give you resistance and then pop. If it doesn"t do this, remove the cover, there are three bolts, remove the cotter pins and then evenly tighten each bolt. Keep working the lever back and forward until it give the resistance and pop feel.

I would suggest rebuilding the cluch anyway (depends on what condition your tractor is in) because it"s a pretty easy job. Basically remove the nuts, a cover and a clutch pad will come out, then the hardest part is removing the clutch drive disk. A 2 jaw puller makes the job fairly easy. There is one more clutch disk behind it, so it must come out. ***Make sure there is a mark on the clutch drive disk & shaft so you put it back on exactely in the same position*** Clean everything, replace all pads, reassemble & adjust. Manual basically explains all this for your particular tractor.

I was also going to add to my first comment that if the clutch lever will not go foward then it is locked and will need to be completely gone through. Just did one on an A 3 weeks ago.

i dont like using a puller on the clutch driver tends to break things i use bolts in the slotted holes and use an impact to turn them

First thing to check with a hand clutch "2-pop" is adjustment, particularly you clutch brake adjustment.

If, for some reason, the clutch will not engage..you may have a broken clutch-lining...
This can be dangerous and should be checked..if the ends happen to try to over-lap, the clutch WILL engage for no apparent reason..with NO way to stop, except to stop the engine..or get it out of gear..

Also..NEVER FORCE those 3 Bolts...!!!!!!!!!!

Get the nuts to move carefully and use penetrant as needed..
IF you force them, you WILL BREAK a chunk out of the Clutch-Drum...
If the clutch has not been serviced, go ahead and remove the Forks and pull the drum off and grease the moving parts and clutch bearing..
JD had recommended this be serviced once a Year...!!
