Honda Rototiller died!

Just using my Honda FR700 rototiller and without warning it sputtered, backfired twice and died. I pulled on the cord to restart and it fired maybe 4 times and now refuses to fire or start. Could a spark plug fail like that? The fuel is fresh and a full tank.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Sounds like you need to pull the plug and see if you have fire. You need 3 things for an engine to run. Spark, compression and fuel at the correct time that is. And yes if the plug gets fouled it can in fact make an engine die like that, but it could also be a few other things. So the first thing you need to do is pull the plug and look at it and check for spark

replace the champion plug with another brand. i had the same thing occur on my honda powered tiller. champion plugs are known for this.

I"d change the plug also, and make sure there isn"t crud in the bowl and stuck in the needle. We had a Honda one time that wouldn"t hardly run. I looked in the tank to see if it had fuel and it was red. One of my wonderful guys put diesel in it. Dumped it out and put gas in and it"s ran fine for years. A lot better than the other way around I know, but I still wasn"t happy. There"s been a lot worse happen here. That was on a real nice electric start 11hp, I"m guessing that"s probably big money to replace.

Mine did the same thing. Could smell it was getting gas. Got a new plug, and put it in. First pull the rope broke. Didn't Start. Put on a different motor to get me buy until I can get this one going. Nice to have a spare motor that fits about everything.

YES a plug can cause that!
I pulled the plug and it was dry, with crud and the gap was 4 thou!! That's right. So I suspect that the backfires somehow collapsed the electrode to .004" So I cleaned the Champion plug, re-gapped it to .025" and its running just fine!
I think I'll be getting a new plug first chance I get

Thanks for the responses
