OTHER FORUMS

I was wondering if y"all knew of a link to an old cars forum like we have here. Need some tech info on rear wheel bearings in a 1951 packard. fellow I am getting it from seems to think I would need to pull rear wheels and pack them before it could towed with a towdolly. any and all links would be really appreciated and probably some one lurking around here can answer that question

A long time ago I put new brakes on my FIL's 1955 Packard. They have drums mounted on a tapered spindle and are REAL hard to get off.

Don't have first-hand knowledge on Packards, but I think any rear-wheel drive system has the bearings lubricated with the differential grease. Also, I'd remove the drive-shaft before towing the car any distance.

Thanks for the rapid response It was right on the button I have never been dissapointed in the wealth of knowledge the is available in this forum. Thanks again

The Packard forum on the Antique Auto Club site (www.aaca.org) appears to get considerable use, but I think the unofficial main Packard forum is www.packardinfo.com.

I'm a Hudson guy, and rear hubs are on tapered bearings- very expensive and a bear to get out, and you don't want to do it if you don't have to. I'd sure find out before taking on the job. If you do need to remove the drums, Walt on the Hudson board on classiccar.com sells a "dogbone" puller that's just about essential for the job.

I do have the shop manual for that car but no way of scanning it, if interested enough could take to copy place and get a copy made. Flat rate and shop with parts list.
