Well, 60 acres of Brome is about 90% in the boot and waist high and the equipments ready. One small problem however, I've had 6 inches of rain in the last week. Still raining today here in S. central Missouri.
Today is maximum nutritional value day for cutting. Well, maybe next week!!!!!!!

I'm hoping to start by the end of next week. My equipment still isn't ready, but I hope to take care of that this weekend...

Don't feel bad you me and animal are all in the same boat and we seem to be about to float away. I dumped my rain gauge just a little bit ago and have a tad under 2.25 inches last night here at the Lake of the Ozarks. If the weather guessers are right we should be able to start cutting hay around Tuesday or Wednesday if it is hot and dry like they said. That would give it 2 or 3 days of ground drying time before we cut. But if thing go like most years here in misery the weather man will say it is going to rain agin Friday and that blows the plans all to H$LL

Its been exceptionally dry here. Hope to get about 1/2 today.

First cutting is planned for Memorial w/e if weather cooperates.

James will pull the big baler out (Krone 260 5x4 bales) this w/e and make sure its ready to go.

Spent last w/e getting the 350 mower checked out and ready. Rake is ready. Tedder is still in pieces at the shop. Hope it is ready by time we cut the coastal.

If we don't get some rain, its going to be a thin year for hay.

So far we've managed to get the wheat silage off the corn ground and a little bit of alfalfa up as silage. Otherwise I'm not even thinking about it yet. Orchard grass and alfalfa are past ready but I cant sell rained on hay. Over ripe, weedy, etc that I can sell if it looks and smells good but wet is orphaned.

I'm thinking if the forecast holds I may try to get some cut Sat-Monday. Everything is serviced and ready to go. Finished up the last two rakes yesterday replacing teeth and greasing. Balers and mowers have been ready for a while. Going to get twine today before it rains.

Neighboring farmer to us when I was younger always said "You can"t get the hay up until you get it cut down".

I"m waiting for both the time to do it and a weather window.

We haven't had a good rain in a few weeks. Hopefully we get some soon to keep the hay alive so we can get it cut in July or so.

Had four inches of rain yesterday. Second cutting of Alfalfa not ready to cut. Not enough sunshine.it is usually first week in June. It is a crazy year. Got the first cutting in without rain. It started the day after and has rained nearly every day. Need warm weather.

I'm about 100 miles south of Billy. We have had about two inches in the last 10 days. It helped but we are still way behind for the year.

When I was a kid in western Washington, we never paid a whit to feed value of first cutting- just started watching the weather from mid-June on, and cut as soon as we thought we could get it dry enough to bale before the next rain. It was generally conceded that you probably couldn't cut 'til the 4th of July.

Now, with mower-conditioners, tedders and round balers, we start watching in mid-May, and try to sneak it in. Some better hay being put up, but we're still totally dependent on weather.
