weathervane

I retired from The Boeing Co. in march, and the crew presented me with a wooden plaque, with an allis B burned into it, and then the crew all singed their names on it. I was looking at it this morning, and I realised that I would like a tractor weathervane, on my equipment shed roof, that reflected my collection choice, of Allis Chalmers. Is there any artistic metal workers out there that could cut out a metal sillioute of an early Allis? Maybe with that I could make a passable weathervane. Any suggestions?

Is it time to treat yourself to a plasma torch?

Expect any good welding shop could cut what you want if you can come up with a pattern.

I wonder if jigsaw patterns would have the right one?

Congrats on your retirement, enjoy it. I'm probably your neighbor to the NW in Hutch.

You could try some HVAC instalation companies. I know my relative's shop has a CNC (?) cutting machine. He just puts the design on the computer and it will cut what he wants out of the sheet metal. They bought it to cut duct work and such.

I think you need a new plasma cutter, just tell
your wife that you bought it for her and she might let use it,if you are nice to her.
GOOD LUCK:

Heck, you can cut it out of 14 or 16 GA steel sheet yourself with a hand-held sabresaw with a fine metal-cutting blade and a little patience.

Google Allis Chalmers tractor weathervane. There are a few that seemed reasonably priced if they're to your liking.

I doubt that we are very close neighbors, greenbean man. Would be fun tho, if we were. I am in Roy Washington, We also still have Boeing out here in the Puget Sound area. They havent completed their move to South Carolina, YET.

Where are you?????????????? Any redneck worth his okra would figure out a way to put a whole tractor on a pole and have it spin with the wind.....

(quoted from post at 12:41:17 05/06/10) Select a image profile,on line or such, print and enlarge it to size desired...find someone(metal shop)with a CAD driven plasma cutter and they sould be able to cut it out of brass, copper, steel, aluminum quite easily. Then mount it on weathervane type hardware, which is pretty basic to build...the plasma cutting and material"should" be well under $100 USD depending on proficiency and pride of craftsman, however the"blanks" used ie:copper can be a bit pricey.Feller near here does such things occaisionally(wildlife art appx 24"x24"),believe ea runs about $60.

I took a chance that you were from Boeing in Wichita. I have been by Boeing there in Washington and visited The Museum of Flight. My uncle lived in Seattle.

My daughter and I spent 10 days in the area from Victoria to Wenatchee to Crater Lake and took I-5 back to Portland. Some wonderful country and some that really surprised me. Amazing gorges. I had no idea they were that deep.

Naturally we took in the Seattle tourist sites and ate up on the needle. Had eaten at the Knoxville Sunsphere so added a second World's Fair tower experience.
