Knew of a drover fellow that wore an eye patch the rest of his life after losing an eye to an old Fordson while cranking it. My Dad had his bib overall's ripped to shreads on the PTO of an R Waterloo while spraying with a fixed-rear moounted unit. He may have had the shield removed to suit the riggin and of course you strattle the shaft.(He was lucky his old bibs were kind rotten and got no injuryexcepting his pride when he walked up in to the yard in front of me an my 5 brothers and Mom on his way to the house.

Thanks for the posts. Any reminders like this are good ones so we don't have to have more on the job training . I got one, when I was a kid my foot sliped off the clutch of my Oliver super 66 while backing up under a apple tree with a rotary mower - pinned me up against the steering wheel and almost ripped my head off. That equipment ain't meant for trimming, since then I never trim with big equipment.

when mowing arond a pond be carful of muscrat tunnels they cave in and the tractor can slide down itto the pond It almost happend to me but I was going slow so I didnt have a n accident

My mother always made dad wear old thin, patched a hundred times, coveralls when picking corn with the mounted picker so they would tear easy. It made for some troubled discusions when it turned colder, and dad wanted warmer coverals. I think they were called heingbone coveralls.

Iowa NE, yes we had dark blueGWG, black&
blue-white 'streamliners' pin-stripe.(I have seen the herringbone type somewhere.) We had an old miser bachelor farmer down the road who wore his bib streamliners out on the front and then turned them around backwards with knee-holes facing backward to get double wear out of each pair. The only problem was folks had easy access to his bank book then with the chest pockets facing backwards... so the story goes.

I am looking at a JD 4110 HST compact tractor and was watching a video on youtube where an older verson of a larger JD 4010 was plowing. There was a young woman passenger leaning on a fender while plowing.
Hard to believe people of this age group would not know better.

I appreciate all of the stories about tractor safety. Thinking back on growing up there were plenty of things that we did that just were unsafe. My father was a very smart hard working man, but he did a lot of things I wouldn't do. I have changed some of my habits after reading some of the stories on this forum. Keep the stories coming.

I was backblading some gravel with my 8n,few years back. Morning started to warm up so I took of my jacket and sat on it. Few minutes later part of it tangled in the PTO snatched it right out from underneath me and only the grace of God stopped me from going off the back with it.
