I have a shallow well .. the other day I went to water my chickens and had no water .... look in the well and it was way down to the bottom ...
I only use the well for watering my garden and the chickens ... so I must have a leak some place ...
Question : How do I find it ?? I pretty will know where the under ground lines are and I don't see any wet spots .... now it rain 3 1/2 inches ... I will need to wait till it drys up again { I shut the pump off , till I need water then turn it on and shut it off again }
ANY ideas on HOW to FIND the LEAK ...

THANKS for any advice .... Mark

1st before you go to bed leave pump build up presser, then see how much psi you have on psi gauge, then turn pump power off, don't use any water over night, check psi in the morning, presser should be close to what it was the night before, if you have 0 psi then look for leaks. 2nd call well drillers see if any wells in your area are going dry. 3rd look at all the water lines you can see, check them for leaks. 4th look for wet spots between well and where water enters house. if the water is getting dirty just before you run out that is a sign that the well is going dry. I think your well is going dry but we never know till we try eveything else good luck. the well guy.

After I shut the pump off ... the well is full of water again ... it's 6 feet from the top ... about ground level ...
when I go to use the well pump ... theres no pressure ... I use the well ever two or three days ...
the pressure tank is in the house but only use the hydrants outside .. no water in house .. it's on rural water ...

If it is a dug well, (Lined 3'dia. hole) it may have lost its prime when it was near dry. If the pump has a pipe plug in the top of the housing, I would fill the housing with water, and put the plug back in. then start it. If there is still no build up of pressure, the pump (depending on type) might need new leathers. Jim

after i think about this, what do you mean by no presser ? little water or no water ? if you have some water but not like you used to have, then you may have a bad yard hyd.

Try priming the pump to see if it will build up pressure. If you keep losing the prime you may have a pin hole in your piping. Hal

When I turn the pump on, I have WATER .. lots of it ... and pressure ... it's if I leave the pump on for a day or so and DON"T used the water ... my well goes down ... so I'm thinking I have a leak somewhere ... and check the hyraunts and they are shut off .. with no leaks ...
Would you suggest ... digging where theres a connect ... where a - T - was put in so I have a hyrant differnt places ...
Like I said before ... I look where the line runs and didn't see any wet spots ...
I just really don't want to dig more than I have to ... only have a spade ...
THANKS ... Mark

Boy I must of been tired last nite ... It should say ... I have pressure and water ... when I turn the pump on ...

SORRY about that ... Mark

could be o ring in one of the yard hdy.some of them you can unscrew the top part and pull up to get the inside parts up and out of the stand pipe then you will see the orings on the bottom, sometimes if they go bad it leaves water leak out the weep hole at the bottom of the hdy.

rusted nuts and all ,
