Early NY plowing, frogs, etc. (many photos)

I just started plowing the earliest I've done in 30 years. Otsego County, NY. Weather is getting pretty wierd. Had an early dry Spring last year and then, just-about NO summer. Still got a few patches of snow here and there. But, very warm dry, and even the "peepers" and "barking frogs" are out. Spring peepers have always been here early Spring. But the "barking frogs" are something new to my property. Used to have them in Northern Vermont, but not here. Note - I don't really know what type of frog they are. They come to my pond, "double up", lay eggs, and leave in few days - and "barking" the whole time.

Took out one of my IH B275s hooked to Deere plows, and a Ferguson TO35 Deluxe to brush-hog the corn stubble first. I left 2 acres of corn standing for the deer this winter.

Down by the pond and woods, where a few old Case DC tractors are sinking into the ground, along with a 1928 Ford AA tow-truck.

great pictures ! feels good to be in the feild turning dirt I bet.Nice looking acreage you got there.Whats the little A frame down in the feild used for?Great shots thanks for sharing.BlaineF(WA)

That little A-frame is a tractor-pulled chicken house. Note how green the path is leading to it? That thanks to chicken "fertilizer."

Works pretty well. Holds 6 chickens and it gets moved once a day, once they're out and the grass is green. Going down hill, I can drag it by hand (just barely). Uphill needs a tractor hooked to it. Leave it in one spot for more then one day and the grass will all be done.

Nice pics, looks alot like our area in S.E. Ohio, oonly, I don't think we have that much space between the hills LOL Keith

i'd like to see that AA wrecker if you get time...i had a 51 Ford 2 ton with a old Manley 'Man Killer' winch on it...the one with the big hand wheel instead of a pto...amazing how much that beast would pull...if i went to pull a stuck i usually took a extra hand to help wind em in.

The AA was shortened, and the rear-winch and lift was made from a worm-drive TT rear-end.
I got it from the original user. That is, the guy that converted it into a tow truck and used it, during the 1930s. Traded him for a 65 Chevy Bel-Air four-door with a 283 and PowerGlide. If it was a two door, I wouldn't of parted with it. He put it on the road, drove it for a month, and died. Then his wife called me insisting I take it back, and give here the AA. I didn't. Keep in mind she hated her recently deceased husband and all his friend. She did not live near him, but showed up as soon as he died to take over everything and cash in.

That poor AA has been sitting in the weeds for years now. Just one of those many projects I've never found time for. I've also got over 30 tractors also waiting for some repairs.

Southeast corner of the county? South of 88? Same here, chiseled a little, but still a little wet. Someday maybe I'll be smart enough to share pictures overlooking Cayuga Lake.

I'm on the opposite side of where I #88 is now (wasn't there when I first came here). South side is called "south hill" and my side is called "west hill." Why it's not "north hill", I don't know.

I'm very close to the Schoharie County line. I'm in Worcester. Next and last village in the county is East Worcester, then comes Richmondville which is Schoharie County instead of Otsego.

When I was a kid, I always wanted to move to Cayuga County because of it's high red fox population. At one time, highest in New York State. I wanted to be a fox trapper. Then, I read a book by an old trapper named Pete Ricard who trapped fox in Cobleskill, and somehow, I wound up in this area instead.

Those are Wood Frogs. They came out here in North-central Maine on March 31st. Peepers were out April 2nd and I caught a snapping turtle yesterday.(let 'im go)
yep, it looks if spring might be here!

you sound bad as me about "projects"
few years back when i sold the old homestead on Galveston Island i left about 3 semi loads of projects...i'm sure theyre just brown stains on the dirt by now after Ike went thru.
i already got about 5 acres of the 100 i call home now full of various iron lol

I thought they were Wood Frogs too. They make a barking sound. I'd heard'em but I'd never seen one.
