Put front brake pads on my 2003 Saturn yesterday. Only got 185,000 miles on them. I bought this car new so I know these are original

Depends a lot on what part of our country you reside in! Where the land is relatively flat, and sparsely populated, your brakes could probably last a long time! that, coupled with one driver, only, who is not a fast driver, who drives carefully, etc. will make the brakes last, too.
but, live in hill country, or mountain country, and you won't get that long on your brakes. Here in PA., i get normal wear on brakes, but not near as much as you claim. And, with State safety inspections, we have to keep our brakes up to proper lining thickness, to pass the regs!

I live in Illinois, St.Louis area relatively flat. Most of my driving is interstate, 50 miles each way for work

Brother had a Volkswagen diesel car that had 357,000 miles on it when he did the first break job . I ask him how did he ever go that long ? He said its 60 miles to work & I don't stop till I get there , same coming home .
