PTO shaft broke

I have a John Deere 1937 unstyled A, and the pto shaft is broke off inside i removed the shaft, i bought the tractor with it broke, so i dont know how long the shaft actually is so i dont know how to find a new one with out the dimensions, any idea how long it should be
Thanks

You will first need to know the diameter. They had 2 different sizes for that tractor. There was 1 1/8 and 1 3/8. The later one is more common as many were upgraded over the years to the bigger shaft. If it is the small shaft you should have fun finding one. You could try K&K, they usually have lots of stuff hanging around. The JD board will have more info on sources for parts.

I would think at this point a person would upgrade to the now standard 1-3/8 inch shaft. The 1-1/8 inch was too small & broke and only very old implements still use that....

Salvage yard or other source could look up what you need from a model & serial number most likely.
