Just done total overhaul on a 135 Massey Ferguson diesel. Today was first day I put it to the test, tractor runs great pulls great but the water in engine got up to 225, water in radiator was barely warm to touch. Motor has a new water pump, thermostat, hoses and gauges. Wondering what you think about water in block hot but water in radiator is cool. Do you think the thermostat is not opening all the way? I'm running a 50/50 mix of antefreeze and 10W 40 Rotela oil. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hello dawsonn,
It sounds as if the coolant is not circulating. Is it possible the water pump impeller got somehow damaged during installation? One item worth looking at is the radiator cap. Make sure is the right pressure and holding.
How about the oil pressure and temp? are the O.K.? Hope this helps.

First guess is thermostat in bass ackwards. Second guess is bad thermostat. I"d check it in a pan of water on the stove. TDF

Test the thermostat, and make sure its turned right. If the sensing bulb is on the radiator side it won't ever open. I've see enough bad new thermostats that I test every one in a pot of warm and heating water and a thermometer before installation.

Could be that the block didn't get filled with coolant and is air locked. If it is then the coolant won't be getting to the thermostat to open it. But most likely a incorrectly installed or just plain bad thermostat. Could try going with out one just to see if it remain cool and reinstall later.

Thanks for replying took out thermostat it is a 191 degree but did not open till 205 service manual said 175 -182 so the right one should do it.
