Remember disking dry sandy ground? Wind blowing dust so you could not see other tractors in field? After a bath you would ruin a razor blade before the shave was finished because of the dust in your skin? Come Sunday in Baptist Church no air conditioning, white shirt pick up ground in dirt although you bathed throughly/ Shirt collar brown from dust and sweat? Those were the days. Best days of life were spent on M Farmall disking.

One hot summer day combining oats with 12A combine hurried home and quick bath. went to church with cute girl named Faye. next morning right ear tickled and found one oat grain in ear! Maybe Faye did not see the oat! I married her neice.

Faye was a classy gal - if she did see it, she didn't tell her niece.

Have you heard the song "Red Clay Halo"?

"When I pass thru the pearly gates,
will my gown be gold instead?
Or just a red clay robe, with red clay wings,
and a red clay halo for my head"

Paul

Come to think of it, Faye was my first kiss and her neice my last. Sounds silly and I a a hick but I was running a pull combine before I had been kissed! 17 years old!

My family spent the 30's and 40's years living on the Sciota Marsh in Hardin County, Ohio. Black dust blowing all year. Older brothers played high school basketball and told about trips to other schools. Bus passed a flowing spring on the way and would stop so all could wash the black muck off before the game.

When dating, there was a church they passed that had inside running water and would stop there to wash the muck off before picking up their dates.

As a young teenager after baling hay all day and finishing the chores brothers and I would ride our bikes 1 1/2 miles to a stone quarry with our towels and soap and take out baths there in the swimming hole. We didn't have running water in our house.... Gene

Is this one of those "aunt/niece" deals where they were both about the same age? My son's best friend in grade school had an uncle who was younger than him by a year- They all had a lot of fun with that.
