OT Saturn strut mounts

Sorry for the OT but cant figure this one out. 2004 Saturn Ion, trying to remove the struts, most strut mounts I've seen always have a couple of bolts the hold it to the tower area. this one only has the big main nut and the threaded rod from the center of the strut on the top side of the tower area under the hood with a dowel just to the siad of it poking up. How do you undo the strut/ strut mount for the car? Only have the strut spring compressor that is mounted on the wall and not the ones that can be bolted onto the spring when its on the car. Thinkin maybe need that tool the compress the spring and then undo the main rod nut.
Any input would help
THanks

so how'd you do it? We had a strut problem with a Pontiac, which required removal of the nut. Had to go underneath and grab the shaft with a vice-grip. Metal was so hard and slippery it was difficult to get a hold on it. Not pretty, not recommended, but only way to get ahold of it.

There is a ratchet you can buy that has a hole in the center of the socket mount that would allow an allen wrench or torx wrench to be inserted so you can hold the shaft still while you turn the nut with the ratchet. A gear ratchet is another tool that is also available and has a larger hole but will work the same way.
