Google Earth and emergency dispatchers

Yesterday we had a ordeal with a fire dept / EMS and a school bus overturned. All turned out pretty good considering .

Our biggest problem was we could not locate the over turned buss, cell phones were not in a good location, and was given the wrong road name. Sometimes that stuff just happens.

My question is, could a dispatcher with say Google Earth locate that buss, or in other issues perhaps tell us what we might be dealing with? Often with grass fires , or timber fires it is hard to know the big picture.
Often it is called in as a car accident without any details, or a semi overturned.

During floods, I wonder if it would help locate camper along our streams that are unaware of problems etc.

Often we kind of could get a heads up if a farmer was ahead of us or a wide load, someone is lost in a wooded area, walked away from a accident to get help, and the list will go on and on.

I have heard some folks could zoom down and see if a single cow is away from the heard, dogs chasing the cattle etc.

Anyone know where I should start, or am I dreaming of things in the future?

Google earth pictures I've seen were years old. Not too good for finding the bus in the snow that just turned over.

I deliver masonry products to jobsites, I many times use google earth to check the area I am delivering too. I know that the pix are usually several years
old, but the pix gives me an idea what is in t he general vicinity.

I would suggest keeping in touch with the school and following the school bus route. I bet the driver didn't vary a lot from the regular route, at least until they went off the road.

As far as using Google Earth goes, I don't think it would help at all and might just confuse things more. I have looked at my property on Google Earth and can see that the view they have is at least 7 or 8 years old. It is easy to pick out buildings and vehicles, so I can recognize how thing used to be arranged a few years ago. Maybe there is a version of Google Earth that is more up to date, but I think you would need to have access to military satellites to get instant views of an area. And I bet that would be REAL HARD to get access to.

Yes , but the satellite pictures on Google Earth are not up to date . The pictures in my area are at least one year old . Also, what are the chances of a satellite viewing that area at the right time. In years to come however , the will have the pictures in real time and then they will be able to do that.

If what you say was possible, the Air Force would have retired its U-2s (which went into service in 1955) a long time ago. Reconnaissance satellites orbit the earth in relatively low orbits, which means they can only see a small portion of the earth at a time.
