There is a DD group at Yahoo Groups.

I am guessing it would be cheaper to buy a 4-53T than to reconfigure a 4-53.

In addition to what you mentioned, I believe the blowers are different as well as the injectors. Probably numerous other changes to meet factory specs.

The 4-53 is not a slouch. I have one that propels a 1947 KB-5 IH truck. Alot were factory installed in 2-ton Chevys, GMCs, and Studebakers. They have about the same power as a small block Chevy.

yes i no the injector are biger yes i i no the dd groupe i have the 453 and it needs to be rebuilt try to find a 453 t is hard

Doesn"t it have Roots blower on it all ready? My 2-53 did.
That could be a bit tricky. You might have to lower the compression ratio.

The later turbo 53's used 19 to 1 Turbo pistons. The injectors are still the N or C series.
It's going to be simpler and cost none extra to find a 4-53T instead of tinkering with the natural aspirated 4-53.
And yes a two stroke diesel with a blower and no turbo is considered natural aspirated. Look in the DD service manual if you won't believe me.
If you can find a 4-53TI silver series then you are in grand style with the bypass blower.
Of course updating the 53 with the latest valve and cam follower springs keeps the pistons from whacking the valves.
Installing the new style blower oil seal reduces the chance of a run away.

i no all the detroits diesel had blower on them i work on the 71 sears quit a bit dont know much about the 53 sears i have the 453na it needs to be rebuilt so at this time i was thing about add a turbo but i need to know how much i have to change i need new piston any way so that aint abig deal i was told by one guy the the timing had to be chainded and bigger injectors the head should be done im planning on doy that any way

my Detroit manual warns NOT to use a natural aspirated block in turbo applications. The block is built lighter.
