O/T recharging a 94 Lincoln TownCar

I"m driving FIL"s car in Texas while visiting - it has a chronic refrigerant leak - one can a year.

I brought my recharge kit for 134a, and the hose does not fit onto the fitting which I beleive is the fill valve. Can somebody confirm the location/description of the fill valve?..... and why I am having trouble attaching the hose (seems like the hosefitting is .020"too small)

You are probably trying to hook it to the high pressure side. 134a systems have different size fittings on the high and low sides as a safety feature. If you hook the fill can to the high pressure side, it can make the can blow up. 504, 94 should be 134, but anything is possible. Didn't the r12 systems have schrader valves instead of the quick connect fittings?

sounds like it hasnt been converted yet...should have quick connects for 134A...only way to get 134A in without correct adaptors is with a set of R12 gauges with the later fill hose...btw...its illegal to convert without marking system to indicate refridgerant installed.

A 1994 lincoln town car uses 134a and the low side port (fill) is on the accumulator which is on the engine side of the firewall on the passenger side.

The EVAP test port looks like an AC port but doesn't fit to the hose connectors.

94 and newer Ford is 134A from the factory. The service valve is going to be either on the accumulator or on the larger low side hose. The low side hose is the one that gets cold and sweats in high humidity.

Also meant to say it could even be on the compressor. You know when you have enough in it when the line is cold at the compressor inlet while the system is running.

Every different type of refrigerant on mobile applications must have it's own unique fittings so that the wrong refrigerant will not be accidentally added to a system. That is why you may run across fittings that have left hand thread.
