I was talking to guy yesterday and he told me that he put combine tires and wheels on a wd45 and he has chaines on them and he has never been stuck, I would think that would be over kill you think.

Typical combine wheel that bolts on is a non-adjustable 26 inch wheel, so it slows ground speed. Chains increase traction no matter what the size, and traction increases with wheel size. And yes, you can get anything stuck.

A 16.9 or 18.4x26 may well stand as tall as a 14.9x28. I would have to dig out my tire book to know the figures, then tire brand would make a difference too. Overkill? Maybe. But the WD45 certainly didn't have any too much rubber/traction to begin with. I just bought one with 13.6x28. That MIGHT be ok on a WD, but I wasn't pleased. So the replacement rim/tires were 16.9x28. They stand a little taller than a 14.9, but not outrageously so.
As far as never stuck!?..... maybe he's very careful,or lucky, or just not ventured out far enough ?

I've got a set of 18.4 x 26 tires on a WD45. They are significantly larger than the 14.9 x 28 tires and wheels.

Here is a picture for comparison

Are the rim centers a standard bolt pattern? I am loooking for new tires for my 420 Ford utility tractor and those tires look like they"d do the job no problem.. 16.9 by 24"s are hard to find and I do know of folks with combinme tires in piles....Unfortunately they are a days drive away.

being a retired rice farmer, there's not a tire combanation that wont get stuck, even tracks with 4x4 every other cleat will get stuck, wonder how I know?/

Those rims are off of a 4400 John Deere combine and have a standard 8 bolt pattern the same as the AC wheel centers. You may have to look for a while, but they are pretty well available and can also be had in different widths.
