Anybody Make A Spear for a JD 158 Loader?

You can get the bolt on bucket spear from Tractor Supply. I dont know how good it is, but they work.
 
Can you just weld up a frame that mounts on the arms like the bucket and bolt the spikes to it? Little different setup, but I got a bucket and a manure fork (5 spikes) with my loader and removed 2 spikes, Works good. I get more out af a setup on the 3pt because of limited space and steering (small tractor)

There has been an add running in the tractorhouse magazine for a fab joint in MO that says they will make custom stuff to fit any loader.

With that said, yes you can buy one but who know's what it will cost. Might be a whole bunch cheaper to make one or hire some one localy to modify a used one.

If you build a frame J&I Truck Bed Co. in Madill,Ok will sell you a spear with weld-on sleeve for $39.95. It's same tapered spear that they put on their rd bale beds.
 
The spears, and the tapered bushings are available at Agrisupply.com. I bought one from there, for less than $100, cut a hole in the snowplow that fits my AC loader, and welded the bushing in, behind the moldboard, with some bracing, I can take the spear off if I want to plow snow, but as the angle of this blade is fixed, I just leave the spear on all the time. If you don't weld, hire a local welder, its an easy job to mount a bale spear.
 
I make them but use forks, way better than single and if you have net hay a couple years old then you can go under the bale raise it up and then spear it...grass will grow up in wrap and put it off if you just spear it
 
Got one from TSC $129 mounts to bucket by slip over cutting edge and one bolt hole in bucket works well takes about 2 minutes to take on and off.
 
Now that I read your post, I think that's the same price as I paid at agrisupply.com. Maybe a little more or less with shipping.
