OT: Thunder in January

It has been thundering here this morning and it brings to mind an old weather line. I have heard of varying endings to it. What are some of them? The saying is, "Thunder in January.....". What is the rest? Mike

Around here the old wives tale is the first killing frost in the fall comes 6 months after the first thunder of the year. Sure hope it doesn"t turn out that way where you live!.

Thunder in January?
I think the rest is: "It is going to rain". Maybe it's "you do know enough to get in out of the rain, don't you"?.....LOL

No clue, never heard it before.

Just think of what problems that would cause world wide if we had a killing frost in 6 months since that would be in June or July. Crops would be gone and the world would go into a food shortage and that would be bad very very bad

How true. Around here the forecasters are calling for a temp dive at the first of next week and possible snow . For now until then we're having mid fifties temps. and rain forecast for the next four days. Also storms with thunder also forecasted .

My superstitious old maternal grandfather had some iron clad guarantee with every "sign" he seen and heard. Something about an open winter I think.

Jimmy has it right, frost in May, I lost 800 acres of cotton one time by not listening to some old timers!
