Been thinking of buying a 1939 JD H that is froze up. Any tips on what to look for besides a cracked block? Been thinking of buying a camera to look inside the plugs to see how much rust or water is in the cylinders. I already know about adding ATF to the cylinders and crankcase to break it loose. Might drain a little oil from the crankcase and trany to see how much water comes out. Wondering how hard is it to find parts. Thanks in advance, George

I see alot of JD H's up here in Michigan. Pretty common tractor and parts are easy to find.
I still prefer my Farmalls but do like those little JD H;s.

Ryan, The only reason I want a JD H is because I bought one 45 years ago for $100 and it went up in smoke when my dad's barn burnt. I have restored both a 1950 IH C and a Ford Jubilee, which I use both to cut grass and push snow. I just want a Deere to pull my granddaughters a sled at Christmas. If you find any deals, let me know. They are asking $1200 for the JD H with a frozen engine. I live in Terre Haute, In
Thanks, George

The never made an H with a wide front end. The only one with a wide front end was a H high, can't think of complete model number now, but they only made less than 200, I think, of those.

(quoted from post at 00:01:28 01/21/10) Around here 1200 for froze up h would be a joke.

What would be a fair price for a froze up JD H? Seller says it was overhauled and has good tires, metal needs paint.
