Just wondering how many of the people on this site are of the youger generation of tractor collectors. What tractors or classic cars do you own and how old were you when you bought your fist tractor? tell the story behind it and how much you payed.

Im 18 years young almost 19, and own these,
My tractors,

1942 John Deere B (grandfathers tractor)-
My Grandfather bought it in the 1970s for $100,then sold it in the mid-1980s for $1000, and i bought it back when i was 14 years old, for $1000, that is after working very hard detasseling the corn.

1945 John Deere B- I bought this after seeing an add on craigslist Payed $850 for it at age 18. It is the first tractor that i am tearing down and repainting. This one has surface rust all over and you wouldn't even think that its a John Deere, but I am determined to bring it back to life. Good running tractor just needs new paint.

1948 Farmall C, 2C32 Loader- Found this for sale on the side of the road. Was going home from football practice when I noticed it and was the first to call the guy abut the tractor. I payed $850 for it and it has a 2C32 power loader on it. 16 when i bought it.

1948 John Deere A- This tractor was purchased at an auction just down the road from where we live. It has a roll-o-matic front end and a 3 piont hitch. Drove it home a few hours later and now use it to blade snow on our 200 yard driveway. Payed $963 for it. Bought at 18.

My Cars,
1928 Dodge Victory 6- bought off of ebay, it is a running all original car but it needs all of the brakes redone and eventually a complete engine overhall. I think that i will keep it as original as possible. Payed $3500 for it at age 17.

1958 Ford Custom 300- I found this car in a local car magazine. It looked great in the picture so i called up the guy and told him I was interested. My dad and I drove 3 hours to go and look at it and drove it home that day. Very fun car to drive around and take to car shows. Payed $2750 for it at age 17.

1965 Ford F250 I found this truck on craigslist and went over to look at it, by doing so i discovered that i new knew the guy from church. he was asking $1500 for it but sold it to me for $1300. Age 18.

I am Jacob Hudson i am 17 years old.

1952 Ford 8n Family tractor. I bought it for $80 with 1200 orignial hours on it and it was on orignial rubber. now restored. Age 15

1948 Ford 8n Tractor was the first one brang to our farm in 48. Now mine. Age 16

1947 John Deere M. My mothers dad bought it new in 47 and now its mine. Age 16

1956 International Utility 300. Bought from my great uncles estate for $1000. age 17

1952 Ford Funk OHV-6. My dad saw this on a motorcycle ride and i went out and bought it for $2300. Age 16

1950 Ford Funk Flathead 6. Bought a couple of months ago. Age 17.

1951 Ford 8n V8. I bought a 1951 for 8n that also got a 1953 Merc Flathead V8 and bought a kit and put it in it. Tractor was $2400 Engine was $1000 roughly after rebuild. Kit was $1500.

1957 Ford 641-D Elenco 4 Wheel Drive. Saw on craigslist and bought it for $3200. Age 16

1959 Ford 881-D Select-o-Speed. Belonged to a guy in the tractor club i belong to and he gave it to me. Age 17

1964 Case 830 Case O Matic gas. Tractor was given to me this summer. In good condition. Age 17.

Vehicels

1964 Dodge D-500 Bought from my uncle for $1 with 20,000 orignial miles on it.

1995 Ford F350 Crew cab long bed 460 Gas V8.

2008 Dodge 3500 Cummins Turbo diesel 6 Speed.

I'm 24 (or will be very shortly) and I've been collecting tractors since I was fifteen.

My first was/is a 1953 Farmall Super A

Since then I've had tractor on two continents (Canada and the UK) in the following order.

1955 Ferguson TEF-20 (since sold)

1975 MF-135 (since sold)

1959 MF-35

1954 Farmall Super C (since sold)

1953 Farmall Super MD

1955 International 300 utility (parts)

1955 Farmall 300

1957 International W450D

I would give them their stories but I need to get ready for work soon. Sam

I'm 28 now, but I grew up on everything we had. They drug the B out of the shed when I was in 6th grade, hooked the hayrake to it, took me to the field and told me to figure it out. Kept it and the Super M out of the sale. I bought an AC 7580 at 21 right after I got my CDL and sold it 3 years later for 500 less than I paid for it. All it cost was a muffler, and two tubes for the duals. Old cars don't interest me like they used to.

I am 14
I have my grandfathers 1955 Ferguson TO 35.Along with his finish mower, brush hog,and blade.
In the barn we have a 1964 Chevy corvair convertable and a 1966 Chrysler Newyorker that I hope to get running this summer.

I been driving tractors since I was five for my grandfather. Bought my first new tractor when I was 15 a B-275 IH oooh you mean young now, sorry I'm 66 yrs. young with about 12 antique tractors that still work to keep from starving.

Just turned 19 a few days ago, so far my collection has four but that will go up with time.
1952 A was the first, got in Jan "07. Now has a complete restoration, take that one on tractor rides and to plow days.
1956 420 U came in the summer of "08. $3700 for it and it has the original orange paint and mounted sickle mower, better yet it ran and works like new.
I got the last two this fall. A 1952 AR and 1948 D. Both have original paint and came from Canada. The AR still has all the original tires even, and runs great. The D however is in pieces rite now since it was stuck very tight, when it goes back togeather it will have a new paint job also.

I'm 18 and going to school for power and equipment technology.

Grown up on about 15 MM's. Just got my own tractor a few months ago. But have rebuilt some of the MM's we have and its a job just keeping them up to par.

Been working on tractors and such since about I could walk. When I was about 8 I rebuilt a lawnmower, engine and painted it. Now I'm in to the more serious stuff.

Drake if you ever drive the '64 make sure it has a rear stablerize bar under the rear end. With out they roll over without much effort and begin a rag top that was not be real nice. In '64 I was 19. You collection is impressive.

At age 17 I couldn't buy a toy car. I sold a calf for $65 at 18 and bought a 1938 Plymouth coupe for $20 it lasted about one summer.

Either you got a rich Uncle or someone left you a lot of money or your are one of the lucky kids who work at the local burger shop.

I was never that lucky living way out in the country.

Anyway its nice to see some kids are lucky enough to have some nice toys.

I guess that's why I like to buy toys now because I never had them as a kid.

The wife just doesn't understand it she would rather I put all my money into the house, What a BUMMER.

I'm 19 (turning 20 in April) and own/have owned the following:

1948 MM ZTE
Grandfather's tractor, handed down to my father, and now to me- under restoration

1952 MM ZAU
Bought at an auction a couple years ago in running and operating condition for $1300. I paid $750, Dad paid $750.

Cockshutt 502 Swather
Bought it back in the summer, really have no use for it, so now looking to sell.

1983 Chevrolet Camaro Berlinetta
My first car/truck, a friend of a friend had it for sale, I went and looked at it, ended up getting it for $600 in excellent running and driving condition. I got it at age 16, had to sell it within a year due to insurance being $6500/year.

1979 GMC C35 Single-Rear Wheel 1 ton
My first truck, paid $500 for it at age 17. It was extremely rusty but ran and drove great with a 350 engine and a 400 turbo tranny. It was not roadworthy and was going to take too much work so I sold the engine and tranny to some demo durby guys and sold the body to some guys looking to restore it.

1983 Chevrolet C10
Excellent running and driving truck, bought it just after the 79 for $600. Had a 350 engine and 350 tranny, body was very solid and had mean 31" tires. Had to sell it due to insurance costs and in preparation for heading off to University

1985 GMC C3500 Crew Cab Dually Flat Bed
Bought it this past summer at age 19. Paid only $600 for it in excellent running and driving condition with an excellent body. Had a 350 engine and 4 speed tranny. Found out how much it was really worth, so put it up for sale. Traded for a 61 GMC.

1961 GMC 930 1 ton Single Rear Wheel
The truck I traded my 85 for, the 61 had an inline 6 and standard tranny, ran and drove great but needed a little body work, so could not be safetied. Insurance was going to be $4000/year, so I sold it to a nice gentleman who plans on restoring it.

Every vehicle I've owned, since the Camaro at age 16, has been bought with my own money, saved up from working from age 14 to present. Wish I could have kept every vehicle, but University drains your bank account, and only being able to work during the summers doesn't help either.

When you mentioned the rear stabilizer bar I though now wait dad said it has those. So after talking to him its actualy a 65 and had the turboed one barrel engine. But he sold it and replaced it with the four one barrel engine. When I go to get them running I will probably ask her first. You guys are all very knowledgeable!

I bought all of these toys after working really hard in the corn feilds detasseling and doing other small jobs here and there. I have been doing detasseling for 6 years and have to say that i love being out in the corn. My goal is to buy a tractor and car a year. I figure that once i settle down i will have to start putting my money into other things so i thought that i better buy all the toys i can now.

Funny you should bring that up, Walt, I was thinking the same thing- I bought the only "toy" of my 17th year (1965) for $125- a 1936 Chev pickup. Ran good, but the old 206 cu. in. 6 cylinder floated the valves at about 38 MPH, which made for pretty slow going. I put a 283 Chev V8 in it in '67- moved much more smartly then!

I'm 25, but I've been working on tractors since I was 5, when Dad started me out raking hay.

I've got Grandpa's Oliver 1600 that I took as my own and rebuilt it (I don't say restored, because that definition varies and I didn't make EVERYTHING like new. Also did some other "mods" to it, like a little chrome here & there...)

We farm with a mAssey 165 w/ continental gas, 285, Oliver 1855 deisel, and my 1600 gasser. Also have a 1755 behind the barn in the weeds that I really want to work on someday, but the house payment comes first.

I didn't plan to get it in the manure at first, but when we need it to run the spreader, it runs the spreader. I plant most of our crops with it too. It's just a nice, lighter tractor that still sits up higher for better visibility.

I've never de-tasseled corn, but I understand its not the easiest job in the world. Good for you- work hard, and enjoy the fruits of your labors- its the American way. I apologize for those from my generation in Congress trying to change it, and not for the better.

Younger than 25? I sure wish I had that problem. Let me tell you just a couple of problems that I have. Years back, but I forget how many years back, when I drank beer, I went into a bar and a sign said, "You can't be served if you weren't born before this date", and had the date 21 years earlier. The problem with that is that I was drinking on that date...legally. Another problem that I had, when I used to drink, was that I went out to this bar to have a beer and there were quite a few beautiful looking young women that happened to be there that looked like maybe they had just gotten old enough to have a drink legally, which meant that I was drinking legally before they were born, and here's the problem with that...cops came in to walk the crowd to check ID's to make sure that everyone was old enough to have a drink legally, and they passed me by. Yep, went right by me. I had to chase them down and try to pay them to card me, and that's a problem.

So you and most of the fellas posting here are under 25? Well good for you...stay that way forever, or at least as long as you can. Never be in a hurry to get older because once you do, the reverse gears don't work so well, and in my case, not at all. You guys don't listen to RAP do you? I sure can't ever make out what them guys are saying.

Good luck and Merry Christmas to the whole lot of you.

Mark

Early production did not have the stablizer bar. That is all I know. If you can keep the belt on the motor it runs good.

I'm 20 and at last count I had about 90 pieces of equipment and tractors in various stages from used/useable to a frame of an Emerson Brantingham 12-20. I also have several old combines including a MH 21-A, MH Super 27, MH 90 Special, Gleaner A, MM G-4, MM S(need to goget soon), an Oli 525 and MM 3496. Most of the equipment is MM or one of the predacessors but there is a little bit of everything mixed in! I was into old Ford trucks for awhile and have a '68 and '69 F-250 crewcabs one was a DD until I tore it apart to do some rust repair and the other I bought as a project.

Just a little bit of the big stuff:
