its' a 4x4 with 4.3L V6 what do you have to do to change a heater core? do you have to take the dash out or can you get it from under the hood?

It comes out from under the dash. I had a 92 Blazer that I did one in. You have to loosen the dash so you can slide it back a little ways to get the heater core out. Not the easiest place to work in. Take your time and don't lose your patience. It took me about 5 to 6 hour to do mine. Good luck!!!

Try to back flush it with a garden hose before going that route.... Or is it leaking? If so disregard first remark, you have my sympathies. They install the heater core, then build car around it!

Might not be a bad idea to get a Haynes manual for this and future repairs.Your local library has manuals too.

Kens got it right. Book says remove dash but it will come out by pulling dash back for clearence. Took me 4 hrs 1st time. 45 minutes 2nd time. Don't expect putting all the firewall bolts back in as by the time you get that far, you'll be too pi$$ed off to care.

I changed one on a 93 s10 with help from this site, go to the archives and try to find my thread- about 3 years ago, wasn't to bad and you don't have to remove the dash. mike
