JD 2550 Hydraulic Problem

My 2550 is losing steering at low rpms. After about an hour of use at high rpm's the remote hydraulics lose pressure or flow. I talked to my JD dealer and they said a remote hydraulic poppet may be bipassing flow making the oil hot so it gets thinner. They also said it might be the main pump. Anyone have ideas first so I don't end up buying or rebuilding the pump. I drained the fluid and changed the hydraulic filter and cleaned the outside of the oil cooler.

Does it work fine at start up? After it runs for a while with the control valves in neutral, feel the valve housing and return line for ecessive heat. If it is hot to the touch, then your control valves are probably leaking by. If the control valve housing is not hot, but the return line is, your rockshaft valve could be leaking by. Steering could be leaking by, transmission pump could be getting weak or an internal leak in the hi/lo if equiped or independent pto if equiped. Could be a leak where the internal tubes come up into the shifter cover. Good luck.

In addition.... I think the first thing I'd check is the suction strainer for the transmission pump.

Thanks for the ideas. I'll check those and see. The steering used to work fine at startup, but now only after the rpms are up to 1500 or so. Then after its running for an hour or so the steering drops off at higher rpms but never goes out all together.
