Jubilee spin on oil filter

I recently purchased a Jubilee with a spin on oil filter and when I first start the tractor it takes about 10 seconds before the oil pressure guage begins to show oil pressure, then it will go up to 40 psi. I think the oil filter is leaking oil back into the crankcase. Has anyone has this problem? About 30 seconds after I turn the engine off I measured the oil level and it showed about a pint low. Let is set overnight and the oil level is normal. Is it possible I"m using the wrong filter?

both napa and carquest filers are wix, made by wix for them i'm using carquest 85515, have for years on my jubilee, i have oil pressure almost as soon as the starter quits spinning, check the oil gage line first, and make sure it isnt lying to you by being kinked or restricted in any way replace if questionable, a regular oil line kit is just a few bucks at the above stores

I did replace my filter with a Nappa filter..It was the cheaper filter not the Nappa gold. Is there something inside the wix filter that will prevent it from draining back?

I did replace the oil pressure guage and line, which I purchased from Yesterday's tractor.

ok george next try this, remove the filter, clean off the surface and look at the small holes, does it have a black diaphram looking thing inside there? if so thats a anti drainback valve and should not be used on your juibilee, go get the 85515 from carquest or 5515 from napa and see if that cures the problem, if you stop the engine and imieadly check oil it will be low all the oil is still up in the engine it takes 15 minutes or longer to get a good reading , im betting you either have the wrong filter on her or possibly something wrong with the new gage [ not too likley but it is possible] try the filter change first, what filter is on it now?

something else to look at as far as the oil level is top of head under valve cover...years of non detergent oil will cause sludge to build up and block oil return holes...that traps a certain amount of oil up top or allows it to return to pan very slowly...if you find this sludge,my best advice is to leave it alone until you want to rebuild engine...once it gets loose it will fall into pan and block the pickup screen on oil pump.

i forgot...been using Motorcraft FL300 oil filters on my '62 2000 for about last 20 years...catch em on sale and stock up.

I don't think the filter is the issue. Decided to remove the filter and discovered it was full of oil. Went to Nappa and got a different filter and some Lucas oil stabilizer. It looked like STP honey at $11.99 a quart. Lucas had a demo with gears and a hand crank and it showed how it sticks to engine parts. Don't see how it can hurt to use it. After replacing the oil filter, putting in the lucas and warming up the engine, I shut it off and restarted it. It only took 3 seconds before the oil pressure started to build. Let you know what happens after it sets over night. Does anyone have an issue with using Lucas oil treatment?

I have a '57 Ford 641 (very similar to your jubilee) that does exactly the same thing since I bought it 10 years ago. It is an unrestored, never been rebuild tractor. Still the original cartidge filter setup though (use fram cartridges now - have tried many others including an original Ford cartridge). I start it up and and wait what seems to be an eternity (just about 10 seconds like you) and finally shows oil pressure on the gauge. On mine, I am sure it is not the gauge as the very, very slight rattling in the engine immediately goes away once pressure starts to show on the gauge - 40 when cold - 15 when hot. Makes me uneasy every time, but just figured that is just the way it is. I just keep the revs low until pressure is there. I am thinking that the choice of filter is not the issue, but hope someone can help you, and inadvertantly help me. I understand your frustration.

Every one of the numbers listed in this thread show to have the anti-drain-back feature (51515, 85515, 51452, FL300 (excepting of course the cartridge element 51004). The one WIX lists specifically for the JUBE (51452) has the anti-drain-back feature. Clearly the original canister & 51004 element did not have anti-drain-back, but it does seem a bit beneficial & I personally can see no harm it it being there.
