IH M-D Compression lever

I have a 1947 Farmall MD, when starting the tractor the lever is back and after it runs on gas you flip it foward for diesel, like the 6 and 9 series. Every other MD Ive seen is the oposite, Were they made diffently throghout production?

I have a 47 MD and the lever is forward to start my 400 the lever is back to start. The hole for the rod is opposite of the MD. Maybe you have a 400 lever on yours which would make it work the opposite. The 400 lever is longer fand has a knob on top.

On the MD through SMDTA farmall tractors the switchover lever pivoted at the bottom of lever and pushed the changover rod forward for gas operation, because the rod was mounted above pivot point. On 400 and 450 farmall tractors the pivot point of lever was above the linkage rod, so when the lever was pulled back it still moved the rod forward for gas operation.
You must have a modified system or something strange.
