Anybody ever heard of a Wayne wood chipper? A kid at work has one for sale for $3500. It has a Chrysler Industrial 318 engine and new tires. What s it worth roughly?

i own one with same setup...$3500 is cheap if its in working order.
mine will chew up a 10" trunk and not even burp.

v-8 gassers tend to be thirsty, old time chuck-n-ducks are great chippers if treated with respect, I miss my old Vermeer 1600 but not the face damage it would give me

if everything is decent condition $3500 would be on higher side of good deal around here, instead of the tires and paint you should be looking at:

drum bearings
condition of knives/shear bar
clutch
governor

stuff like that

not to bad of a price. but the drum bearins should be checked. also I cant remember if the wayne had the set screws on the knife lands to adjust them or if it was Mitts and Merills that had them. any way if it does hope they are able to move they can be hard to free up. 318 is a great engine for those machines they do like gas. just do your self a favor and take a very good look at this machine and make sure it is safe. there is alot of people that sell unsafe chippers, when something goes wrong with a chipper there is a good chance some will be badly hurt or killed so make sure it is a safe machine. mybe take it to someone that is a chipper dealer to have it checked out before buying. Where I work out here in MA we are not a wayne dealer but I know we would check out a machine for some one to see if it was safe.

Try it out first, I would doubt it will chip anything over six inches if that. After the chipper has been brought up to speed and the drum spinning disengage the clutch and shut off the engine. You will be able to hear any growling in the drum bearings if there is any. I replaced the drum bearings in an Asplundh chipper, not a real tough job. Twenty years ago the bearings were $120.00 each from the dealer. 35 hundred I would say is on the high end on price. Those Mobark style chippers put the Asplundh style ones out of business. Get a manual with it so you can adjust the cutter bar clearance. They chip better if set up correctly.
