transmission blew up

Ive got a chevy 1500 (6.5 diesel) with a 4L60 that just had the automatic transmission blow apart. Any idea on how much work it would be to put a stick in it? kits? ideas? thanks

Forget it.

First obstacle is how to put a clutch pedal and linkage in it. On a pickup with automatic, things are arranged different under the dash.

The next obstacle would be the computer is probably programmed for shift points on the automatic, and would be out of kilter for a manual.

I've always had an "I'll try anything once" attitude toward vehicles, but I see that as being a can of worms to a point of not being an option.

simplest is to stick with the auto. unless you had one with a standard sitting beside it so you could transfer parts, but is it really worth it?

It would be easier and simpler to put another 4L60 in the truck, but its not impossible, or very hard. The biggest challenge is getting the clutch pedal and linkage in the truck, its not too hard if you have a hydraulic master/slave cylinder clutch linkage. Its easy to cut a hole in the floor, the hardest is getting the clutch linkage.

I have a 1993 Dodge D250 that I put a 5 speed in, it too had a bad auto. Wasn"t hard, but it has a air operated hand clutch, the clutch is operated by a hand grip on the stick. Air compressor is an electric unit. It works pretty well, but is a little jerky until you get used to the way it works. Thats another way you could do it. Its not standard, but it does work well.

I know on the fords (and i beleve the dodges) there are plugs in the body where the manual parts go. So you dont even have to do any body modifications you just pull out the rubber plugs. I also know on the ford diesels, they dont care if you use an automatic computer in a standard truck. It just tries to shift something that isnt there but it does not throw any error codes (at least on the old body style).

With all the cash for clunker trucks sitting in the bone yards, I would be putting the automatic back in. I can by that tranny or a ford E40D out of my local yard for $150.00 with a 30 day warranty. I just bought 4 brand new Goodyear Wrangler radials( the blue stuff was still on the white letters) mounted on factory ford aluminum wheels from my local yard for $175.00, to put on my '94 f150. The guy behind the counter to me to send all my friends to him for tires and parts because he has more than he knows what to do with.

I had one and put a 400 turbo in it.Its ot the same bolt pattern as any chevy so you could put anything in it ,auto or standard. Hoss
