Auction got me again, Red tractor added to fleet

Went to an auction on saturday, looking for a dresser for the kid and a file cabinet for momma. Found the file cabinet, paid a whole 2 bucks for it, did not find a dresser for the kid but there was a cute little 1944 Farmall A that was not on the salebill. You guessed it I ended up taking it home, gonna put a belly mower on her. Any suggestions from anyone about the best mower to put on, I am leaning toward Woods brand but would like some opinions. Thanks guys and gals:>)

Boy 30+ years ago when I taught Ag-Mechanics that was a popular thing to do and the A series was one of the most popular tractors in the suburban Toledo are. Woods was the most popular brand but another good one was the Continental Belton if I remember correctly. Buy a mower where you have a dealer neerby.

My dad put a Woods 59 on a B Farmall 35 years ago and it's still purring along fine after thousands of hours of mowing. The 59 is a finish mower that doesn"t handle taller grass as well.

There"s another model of Woods belly mower that has more clearance and will handle taller grass but I can't come up with the model number. Our local threshing show is mowed with a 240 International with this higher clearance Woods and it"s real impressive. It can put a good finish on tall grass with one pass.

If I remember right from the days when Dad bought his mower, the common talk going around at the time claimed the Continental mower handled tall grass better but didn't do quite as well as a finish mower. Both brands are bullet-proof. Jim

Couple of months ago Nancy and I were shopping for a finishing mower for "Sparky" her 51MT.

We came across a 5ft Continental Belton "Mustang" trail-type finishing mower in Paris, TX.

Last time I went by the dealership it was gone; appeared to be a good little mower.

Don't know where you are in WI, but I'm in east central MN, and if you had any interest, I have a 5ft cut rotary finishing mower that was mounted on a Massey Harris pony. It is not perfect, but it worked when removed from the tractor. I'd take $150 for it with the pto gearbox and mounts included. If you had any interest, I could email you a photo or two.
Email is open.

I am absolutely interested, where are you, Iam in Siren right in the nose of the indianhead. I am not much good at e mail but I will try.

I am about 1 1/2 hours away from you. Head east to Grantsburg, and then on to Pine City MN. I am just over an hour NW of Pine City, MN. We'll figure out a way to get you some pictures. I'll be home this evening, and I'll get a couple of pictures to send off to you.

I used to have an "A" with a Woods belly mower under it, wished I still had it. Traded it for a 21' camper years ago, boy was that a mistake. Never enjoyed the camper.

CJ,

Where it says send email in the bottom right corner of my message box, I need you to send me an email so I have something to reply to. I don't know your email address, and yours is not open to send a message to.

Thanks
