What is something like this worth? Has flat spokes on rear, new rear tires, rebuilt cylinder head, rebuilt mag, carb has been gone through, new muffler, along with a few othe misc. parts.

Are you sure it is a '39. Flat Spokes on the rear tells me it came out with Steel Wheels and by 1939 practically all tractors were being produced with Full Rubber and most with Disc Wheels and the few which did not does not include JD. I had a 1937 JD A and it had round spokes all around on Rubber telling me it came from the Factory with rubber all around. And My 1935 CC Case came with Steel all around. My 1938 Farmall F 20 came with round spoke wheels with rubber all around.1939 was the year the Farmall M first came with cast rims and rubber all around.JH

I have a 39 "A" that has round spokes in the back. I always wondered for years if it came like that from the factory. It is a early 39 and I bought a book years back of pictures taken by John Deere with old black and white test photos. There were a couple with the styled hood and factory round spokes and solid wheels up front just like my tractor. Later one i went to a show in Tennessee and found a tractor just like mine. the serial numbers were close. Also seen one up in New York and the serial number was also real close. So I'm guessing that some of the early ones may have snuck out with round spokes. have any thoughts on it?

Flat spokes say it was a steel wheel tractor with the wheels cut down and rubber tire rims welded on them. The round spokes are early factory or aftermarket rubber. And it was common to have steel up thru 1946, last of cast type (not pressed steel) frame and 4 speed was standard on all A, B, G tractors at that time with 6 speed being an option from 1941 to 1946 and all steel wheel tractors were 4 speed models. And some tractors came with steel on rear as the farmer thought it would pull better or during the war no tires being avaible yet the front was rubber.
