I have a 36 model AR serial # 250--- and it has no oil pressure, i have put in new pump gears, checked oil pick up tube and all is clear, put all new gaskets in oil pump, primed pump and still have no oil leaving pump .i took line off that goes to filter and no oil . any ideas???thanks

my guess is over the years someone tighten the oil filter bolt to tight an pulled the filter head down, if the pump is not pumping, you can tell by looking up in the filter housing and pulling the plate out with a puller. than look up in there if its bent that might be your problem. Ive been wrong before.not very much smarts on that.

Are you sure your pump is turning. There is a square metal connection sleeve that joins the pump drive to the pump shaft. If the tractor had some water in the bottom of the crankcase & someone turned the tractor over in the winter (frozen) it will break this connector. This is not an uncommon condition for older AR's that have been sitting. Maybe you already know about this but worth checking.

thanks i did check that today, took main bearing housing out of tractor and removed oil pump gear that drives against crank gear and checked that block and re gasketed everything i even blew through all the passages with an air gun all was clear, i have had this think totally apart and find nothing wrong thanks for the help though

I agree with Don, there is a cuppling that connect the shaft from the oil pump to the governer gear and it breaks sometime as he said. You can remove the rod cover and feel to see if its broke if it the same as an A john deere.

If you can find anything wrong, you might drop the pump out put it in you parts cleaner and turn the shaft to see if its pumping, if its pumping ,I would think its something we said already thats wrong .

I went through the same thing with my 35 A years ago and it indeed was a warped filter housing. The pump is up behind the flywheel and I also did everything I could to fix up the pump to no avail. An old two cyl mechanic guided me to the filter housing. Jim

I think it is same pump as the D. I had the pump gear spin lose on the shaft on my D. You might want to check that but if you put in new gears that seams highly unlikely.

prime the swstem to get some oil to the bearings as not to score them to start with.! thentake the oil line to the guage and see if oil comes out as you crank it

If been sitting for years with water in crankcase hole or holes rusted in filter can. This will cause no oil pressure. BTDT.

I have an AR that I bought non-running, when I got it going had no oil pressure---turned out to be the line coming off pump was split open, probably water in at one time and froze. Brazed it back together and no problem since.

How much clearance was there on the sides of the gears? If there is to much clearance the oil will just run around the gears. Is the relief valve stuck open or broken spring. Like was said before turn the pump shaft by hand in parts washer or oil can and see if it is pumping.

pack the gears with gun grease. Then start it, see if
it develops oil pressure then. For those unfamiliar with the early A's and AR's, the oil pump is driven off the crankshaft, like the D's and GP's. they don't use a coupler like the newer models.

Thanks to all for your help i have finally got oil pressure,as mark said i packed the gears with grease and that did the trick again thanks to everyone
