Anyone going to the show in Rantoul next week - with the late year - will there be crops to see being harvested?
Is it worth the trip from Ohio?

Thanks!

I'm in - but we are only 2 hours away. Want to see Big Bud if nothing else!

Come watch Antique tractors, combines, pickers, threshing, plowing, etc and then decide.

Go to Half Century of Progress and you won't want to miss it!

Maybe some neat machines but I don't call having thousands fewer farmers than 50 years ago Progress. And no fewer farmers aren't doing the same job anymore than the Head of General Motors builds all the cars by himself.Instead of having independent farmer owners we now have a few owners and lots of hired hands with about the same number of people getting the job done

Jim- Are you bringing your tractors? I'll have 3 there and a plow. There will be plow-bottom pulling classes as well as sanctioned on Friday night and Saturday. I think 3-plow weight is 6500, 4-plow is 8500, and 5-plow at 10,000. Also an "open" plow class at 12,500 I think. Hope to see you there!

Earl, when you say they sprayed everything, do you mean they sprayed to make things ripen? We were wondering if they would do that. I assume they gramoxone the crops? Were they any way near being ready?

I am planning on taking my 45 combine along with some friends who are taking a couple of 40's. Mike

This will be my first time going I hope it will be worth my 7 hour drive from Springfield, Mo.
Looks like I'll be staying in Champaign or Urbana since all the hotels are full in Rantoul.
Any you guys from that area have any recommendations where to stay?

On priceline I got the wingate by wyndam in Champaign for $45 + tax for Thurs night. This was 2 weeks ago though. Champaign is only 10-15 miles away.

If you want a motel close to the show rated from closest to furthest:

ParkInn: 217-344-8000 I think the name has changed.

Eastland Suites: 217-367-8331

Super8 217-384-8000

Holiday Inn: 217-328-7900

Holiday Inn Express: 217-328-0328

Sleep Inn: 217-367-6000

There are about 50 hotels/motels in C/U. I am sure there will be rooms. I might also suggest that you visit a site like Orbitz to locate a hotel and then call the hotel directly for reservations.

Mike, I haven't been to the fields.I was told they sprayed about 10 days ago. They sprayed the fields 2007 to ripen & dry up the folage. I saw a bean stem from one of the fields before it was sprayed & it was starting to dry up & drop leaves. I hope to meet you there I will be around the JD tent on Wed & Fri aft. Earl
