Anyone have experience with MaxQ pasture seed?

I was just reading in a cow magazine about this modified fescue grass.
Sounds interesting. Anybody have any experience with it down in South GA.
Looks like the gains might really be worth it. Good for horses also they are saying.
I don't know if you can grow it down here or not. Right now we have coastal and bahia. I seed down some rye and oats for winter grazing.
Costs look to be about 125 bucks for 25lbs. which would do an acre.

People really like in KY. I know we took a trip in college to Miss. and went by MSU to see what a "real" school looked like. They were doing a trial on in there back about 01 on horses. Was growing as good or better than Ky31 on their plot. Don't know your weather but if it's like Starkville's it should work.

Bet that was an intersting trip. Well i think i might try an acre or two here and see. I think there is a good ag school just north of me . Been meaning to go see the place. Have to research this.
Thanks Dave

We haven't tried the MaxQ, but I did some research on fescues. The new hybrids don't have the harmful effects the old fescues had - fescue foot in cattle and pregnancy problems in horses, but still maintained the drought hardiness and cool weather growing abilities.

If you try it, I would be very interested in the results.

That's what i have been reading also. Like i said i am almost sure we have a ag type college close by. Gotta find some time to check , i'm sure they have investigated this. I'll let ya know if i find something interesting.

I tried some last fall. We have alpacas and they say the endophites in the regular fescue can be harmfull. I have a mix with orchard. Some of it has grown well and some has not. I have a little left over that I will use for overseeding this fall. I do know it is expensive.
