O/T Pine trees in South Georgia

Hey all i have noticed all the log trucks on the roads. I'm south of Macon GA. I see that they do quite a bit of thinning of the pine tree farms. I was wondering what it would cost to get a load of the trees, say 6-8inches in diameter. I'm asuming this is going to the pulp factories.
Anyone down this way that has some experience with this. Any ideas on what they get for a load a little bit bigger than the smaller trees?

Don't know how they do it in GA, but when my father-in-law was selling timber for pulp, it was by weight not size.

If you are wanting firewood, the pine trees are not the way to go. They cause too much tar build up in the chimney. However, loggers are glad to cut a load of suitable firewood, just find one and ask him. For other purposes, I'm sure they would deliver a load of pine at some price. I'm guesstimating $1,000 plus. Like Nany said, they sell pulpwood by weight. Saw logs are generally measured by a scaling stick(don't remember the proper name) so the sawyer can see and allow for reduced yield in crooked logs.

I was looking to build stuff out of them. Always wanted to build a small log type building . Nothing fancy like a tool shed. Thought it would be fun.
I figured the larger ends of the tree for the shed and then the skinnier ends for decorative type fencing and such.
Wow just got another nice rain storm blow through. Nice just cooled it off 20 degrees.

Couple hours up the road from you I have abour10 of them you can have, if you cut them! Nice straight pines too.

Many years ago my former brother-in-law and I would go to road construction sites and offer to cut trees along the right-of-way.

We sold a lot of hardwood (oak and sweet gum) to a local sawmill that made railroad ties.

We sold the limbs as firewood.

Fine on log building. Pine used outside for any kind of fencing will last maybe 2 years. Down there in S GA you should be able to get some cypress which is decay resistant.

Logs of the size you mention are most likely headed for a plywood mill. Those are rather big for pulp wood. A lumber/log yard should be able to set you right up with what you need.
