Looking at prices for whitewashing and one company prices is at 2.00 a running foot. So would the be the entire perimeter, all four sides? the longest side measured?

I would have to guess, running foot means the height of a wall + length would mean if you had a 40' wall in length It would equal out to 40 running feet. ceiling would be another charge , as the three other walls.

If the room is squared off like 40 X 20 you would have 120 running feet,[no matter the height] less ceiling area.

I'd guess a running foot would be the length of the wall no matter how high. By the square foot would be the length times the heigth. Ask the bidder so you're not surprised.

A running foot is the total lenght of wall. If you are talking about the whole building yes it would be the perimeter. Make them ex[lain the what their prices means.

Dont forget if you have an interior wall. It has two sides so a 40X20 building with an interior wall 10' long = 40+40+20+20+10+10=140 ft

That is what I expected them state, length of the building. The eventual response I got back, after I asked if by running foot they meant perimeter, one said yes, one company said no, length of longest wall. Barn is 40 X 30 so using permeter method it would cost 280.00 to whitewash.

When you're dealing with those devils, just get a quote for the job. Period. Spell out what is to be done....
Let them worry about the fast talk and BS.
