My Spra-coupe just started demonstrating odd behavior with the clutch and tranny. It has a VW industrial engine and transmission in it.
First I thought that it was just hard to shift. Closer inspection noticed the clutch cable was badly frayed, so I assumed the hard shifting came from not having the clutch fully disengaging. Adjusting the clutch cable shorter seemed to help.
It became difficult to find 1st and 2nd gear, so I adjusted the mounting bolts on the gear shift lever. This is just a ball joint that attaches to a shifting rod that goes back to the transmission.
I ordered and installed a new clutch cable, but the new cable is not the same as the old one because of a service update. The new cable has a vinyl block that bolts on at one of the former clutch cable clamps. Adjusting the new cable to remove the free travel went to the limit of the adjustment on the new cable (the nut is screwed all the way on.)
With the new cable tightened as much as possible, if you attempt to start the sprayer in gear with the clutch down it moves, suggesting the clutch is still not releasing.
I don't know anything about transmission work. What should I do now? Any advice is appreciated!
