drought stricken corn, when is it beyond revival?

Just did a walk of the feilds. About 50% of one feild is shriveled and turning brown, about 1/2 height of green stalks. I am wondering if these areas are beyond hope. Rest of my corn is tall,7'+ and still a nice dark, moist green. I have multiperil, but these areas wont even be worth running a combine through. This portion also isnt anywhere close enough for me to graze the cows. Kinda wondering what some of you guys think I will have for options. It is what is is. Glad I took the insurance. Kinda depressing how things can change in 2 weeks in this light soil.

Not too sure when it's too far gone but I would say that it's just about there. It's hard to believe you have corn 7'+ tall. Corn is only about 2' tall arond here with some areas a bit taller. Hopefully you'll get a bit of rain.

This photo was taken 6/28. A picture on 7/4, which is on the wife's PC I am raising my hand and it barely was above the corn. Never thought I'd have 7' high by the 4th, but I did. Now I am gonna look at irrigation. I have 300+ tons of chicken manure annually for fertilizer so I may as well make the investment and go for top yeilds from here on out, cant do that with out water.

As Yogi Berra said it ain't over till it is over. In '86 I had a field that never got that deep green. It was yellow all summer. I was tempted to bush hog it and plant but milo. But when it was tassling it got a 5" rain. It was so short that I could walk thru the corn and look over it. It made around 125 bul. Fields that did not get rain made about 60 or less.

You said 50% of one field is brown. You mentioned MPCI.. You can suffer 50% loss on one field and still not have a loss on the unit.

Once it is brown, it's pretty much done for.

That's farming! My motto is " the less I farm, the more money I make." So far it has been true 100% of the time.

We have corn fields here in PA that are out in tassel already. Knee high by the 4th of July?? By that time some fields here were 8 feet already. Strange dippy weather. Last year this time we were praying for rain. Hey, that is farming. And everybody"s been through it at some time..too wet...too dry...too cold...too hot..and everything in between. Hard way to make a living but a great way to live a life!

Like others said, it could still rain and bring it around. Also it seems corn is most stessed right before it tassles, so maybe if it can get tassled and get a little rain you might still be in the game. Corn around here is not near that tall, but after no rain in may we have had a wet june, flooded out all the lows but rest looks good. No two years alike. I wouldnt graze it or hay it without first getting some nitrate tests on it. A few years ago the early planted corn around here all burnt up and guys were baling it up and then only found out it was high in nitrates from heavy fertilized fields and low moisture. If it is cut for silage you eliminate this problem. Just something i have seen over the years.
