Caution!!!! I converted my IH "H" to 12 volt and the 6 volt starter would slam in to the flywheel very hard. After about two years of that sometimes the starter would lock up in the flywheel. I removed the stater and all the teeth on the flywheel were badly chipped. I had starter re-wound for 12 volts and it works great, still using same flywheel but no lockup problems since. I recommend to have that starter re-wired and save the flywheel!!!!!!!!

thats exactly why i dont believe in 12v conv. its hard on starter and ring gear. and there is no need for it because 6v. starts those engines perfectly fine.and its not original either.keep your ignition and cables in shape and no problems. what about hand cranking?they start with 1/2 a flip! and there not diesels so they dont need a lot of rpm.to start.
