Serviced the wifes Chev Equinox today. Changed the air filter and the new Fram filter said "made in Israel" I don't remember what I paid for it as I bought it a while ago but even if it cost 10 bucks how the hell can they get the paper from who knows where because they don't have trees in the desert and then even if they paid there workers nothing they can send it way over to the coast and then we truck it to Mn. all for 10 bucks. I might add that it was poorly made as well almost to the point I was gowing to blow the old one out to use and take new one back. The rippled paper was smashed in a couple places and the rubber gasket was kinked but I was able to get it in with no leaks.

I always tend to stay away from anything that has the FRAM name on it.

On a related note,an auto dealer told me he just got back from a cruise ship vacation.FROM ISRAEL! Yeah,he was a different cookie! Aparently they have more in Israel than we think.

Frams are junk, Mobil 1 filters are good, so are most of the wix brand.

There is a oil filter study on the internet, search for it, read it, sleep with it under your pillow.....Lots of good info in there.
The oil filter study was done in 1999.

I have stopped buying Fram products ever since I had a pinhole in a Fram oil filter. The metal is SO THIN.

Take a Fram oil filter and compare it to a equal size motorcraft or mobil 1 or mopar filter. The Fram doesn't even make a good paperweight, it's so light.

I buy the Motorcraft for the fords and the mopars for the dodges/jeeps i have.

Down with FRAM!

A vendor where I work is contracted to provide our filters, any kind, as long as they are the corect size/cross. We get "autovalue" store brand occasionally. The metric ones seldom thread on easily and are easy to cross thread. AC and Wix are usually ok.

if you care at all about your vehicle get that fram filter off of it tommorrow they are little better than no protection at all, good quality filter from wix [ napa or carquest] about 12 bucks depending on application, new engine 5 to 6 thousand bucks, your call

I bought some 2x4's at HD last year. Nice, straight boards. Little tag on the end of each one - "made in Sweden". Same thing, how can they ship lumber from Sweden, high labor costs, to here and make money?

Speaking of importation, did you know your Chevy Equinox has an engine that is made in China and the transmission that is made in Japan?
I guess I'm saying that it is a global world and manufacturers scour the world to get the biggest profit.

You know, everybody seems to knock Fram. They are cheap since they sell them in Walmart, etc. But that's all I have run in my Dodge and I've got 185,000 trouble free miles on my engine. Granted I don't operate in extreme conditions like some of you but they've got to be better than the quick lube places.

slim

The last time I was on antibiotics they were made in Israel.

Makes you wonder what would happen if the US suddenly needed a large supply of them.

Recently I started keeping track of stuff that came from "strange places". I offer this list without comment:

Mexico - lamp socket
W Germany - Volvo 850 thermostat
Vietnam - oven light bulb
Mexico - exhaust gaskets
Israel - Buick cabin air filter
China - vacuum sweeper bags
Ohio - battery terminal corrosion preventer
Thailand - shrimp
USA - Buick oil pressure sending unit
Mexico - Gates radiator hose
Mexico - oil seal for trailer wheel

Just wondering why a German-made thermostat for a Swedish [European] car ends up on your list of "strange places." I would wonder only if it wasn't made somewhere in Europe.

Morning coffee buddy is a Vietnam vet, proud of his service. His daughter gave him a patriotic bill cap- Has the great seal of US, etc. I looked at the tag and found the supreme irony- "Made in Vietnam".

If you read the oil filter study that somebody mentioned, Fram rates real low. Walmart is not the source to decide how inexpensive something is, if you shop around they're getting to be higher than most. You probably paid more for your Fram than I paid for Wix at Napa, 2.49. I've did the same as you, drove thousands of miles on Fram, but why would I stay with them if there's something better for the same money?

6.5 L turbo diesel main brgs "made in australia" on them.

On a set of hasting piston rings,
"made in canada".
On the box they came in ,
"made in USA",
on the package,
:assembled in Mexico:.

You go figure
